remember how I said that the prizes would be the lessons? Well, here's one of the first: You can make more money (typically) in other investment vehicles. Coins are generally not a good investment.

I am curious to see how our coins hold up to the price of silver and gold.

My 2 St. Gaudin Gold $20 picks stayed the same, while my 2007 Gold Buffalo FS went from $1300 to $1540. +$240 so far.

BNB is up $555.00 according to PCGS!

What gets me is that he bought in when silver was at $18.52 and it's at $17.26 today. So, even though silver is down $1.26 he's still up!

Just curious...is there an actual collector demand for MS-63 American Eagles?

That is the thing with the coin he bought - he might make "money" in a deal where you just watch the guides, but try to sell a MS63 ASE in the real world, and you would have ONE hard time trying to find someone to give you melt.

ASE at '63? What was it, a pocket piece?

I agree that it wouldn't work out in reality, but buying MS63 eagles is a way to effectively buy bullion at spot via the PCGS Price Guide at the time we had to lock in our picks. I did the same thing in my list of purchases.

Now if PCGS has moved those prices up while spot prices have gone down, who knows what that is all about. The PCGS Guide is supposed to be based on actual prices from transactions reported to them or from auctions. I don't even know if any MS63 2009 Silver Eagles exist, but I know it would have been impossible for me to actually purchase the 160 I "purchased" for purposes of this contest.

Just looked at the 2009 First Strike $1 Eagle in MS63 that I "bought" went up from $18 to $19. But the 2008 First Strike is still at $18... guess I picked the right date???

Oh cool, thanks, Jesse, I didn't even know that!

Well we still have a year to go folks, so believe me, just because I'm in the lead now does not mean I'll stay in it forever.. However, maybe I will?

    It's a coin toss!

My portfolio of coins just jumped $400 :)

The 1908-S IHC in G4 just went from $60 to $70 in the Guide so I'm up to $10,640 total now... I think I'm just beating out BNB now :thumb:

Illini, I no longer have access to the PCGS price guide in some grades.

Can you tell me what the price is now on AG-3 16-D Mercs?

I can't believe that I have to subscribe to keep track of my own list!!!

I don't have access either, thanks PCGS :(

However, if you want free access to both the PCGS Price Guide and the population reports, you can have it by just starting a registry set that requires the coin you're looking for. Then, from the "what if" screen when you're in the edit mode on your registry set, you can choose that specific coin in that grade and it'll give you the PCGS price and the pop numbers. So with a little work, you still have the access if you want it.

Guys, not sure if anyone is still reading this thread since it doesn't get bumped when posting. Anyways, the 1908-S IHCs are on fire!!!!! The price of the G4 just jumped another $10 in the past couple of weeks and is now up to $80, which pushes my total investment to over $11k :D

    8 1909-O AU55 quarters = $4800
    40 1908-S G4 IHCs = $3200
    160 2009 MS63 FS Silver Eagles = $3040

    Current value of $10k investment = $11,040

    How's everyone else doing??????????

I think BNB is still at $10,555 with his Silver Eagle investment

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the PCGS Guide prices on mine and BNB's silver eagle purchases will go down soon if silver stays down. ;)

BNB is up $555 so far. Mine have broken exactly even. They haven't moved an inch.
