I noticed that the for sale area has mainly contemporary coins…Is it possible to have a strictly Ancient sale section? Respectfully, Rich
Not a terrible idea, but I don't think it would fly with the admins. Nope. No solicitations allowed on the discussion forums. The advertising forums (For Sale, Want Lists, etc) are the only place that is allowed.
Posting the link in case anyone can’t find it or didn’t realize until now CT has a Sale forum: https://www.cointalk.com/forums/for-sale/ I hope this is okay @lordmarcovan otherwise I can edit the post and remove the link.
Nothing wrong with posting a link to the For Sale forum in general. It's not like you were promoting your own sales thread, or anyone else's.
Sure would be nice if collectors bought and sold coins directly with collectors more often. Having to continuously line the pockets of middle-men and auctions houses when I want to buy or sell a coin is aggravating . Of course, as with all things in the world, we can't have nice stuff because people suck (I find that I get more and more cynical with age). If the buy/sell listings in this forum were utilized more heavily, then the scum of humanity scam artists would descend and eventually ruin everything
Yep. That's pretty cynical, all right. But not 100% wrong, I guess. And I know firsthand what you mean about getting more cynical with age. "The more people I meet, the more I like my cats", I'm fond of saying.
You may be a bit cynical but the official Coin Talk position makes you look like a Hello Kitty fan. https://www.cointalk.com/threads/warning-if-you-buy-here-you-may-get-ripped-off.316414/ I'm not a cat fancier. We used to have pet cockroaches (Hissing) that were kinda cute, though.
We had hissing cockroaches when I was younger, about FFIVN's age. Someone......forgot to close the lid all the way and many of them escaped. We found several but others were MIA. That is, until you'd be walking in a dark room at night and *CRUNCH*...My mom was less than thrilled. That was the end of keeping insects as pets in our house.
The "For sale" index page is easy to use. If you want to sell ancient coins, just put "Ancient" in the title and those of us who frequent the ancients forum will have an easy time finding the coins. If you want to buy ancient coins, it is easy to look through the last index page or two and see what has been offered. Usually, it is not much. Any given day there are thousands of ancient coins are for sale, but not on CoinTalk. If you want to buy ancient coins, here is a list of websites: http://augustuscoins.com/ed/dealers.html
Many/most of us have coins we would be happy to pass along to new homes but the fact remains that most of you do not want what I will let go and I don't want what most of you don't want to keep. People who might be interested in our cast offs may not know about Coin Talk (yet) or be of the opinion that such coins are not collectable because they are not proof grade. I am running out of coins I find boring and am unable to find coins I like and can afford these days. Dilemma.
no..that board is for all members to sell on, regardless of what time period...ii put an ancient on there a few weeks ago, but only one...just keep checking over there for what for sale...
..of course i'm exempt cause i bought your 'more silver than bronze' Valerian denarius at the JAZ auction..^^
That's Doug...uh...the other Doug @GDJMSP and this was precipitated by one of our members shorting someone on a silver deal. I have bought from some members here and haven't been cheated...yet.
