Greetings all came upon this 1971 Lincoln cent while going through some Bank rolls. the obverse looks to me like a grease filled die along with some of the lettering my question is on the date why is the one almost gone but yet the one nine and seven are fine. wouldn't a Grease filled die affect all the numbers? On the reverse there's also some issues I can see the environmental smashes on the posts of the memorial as well as other places. The first u in unum is thicker than the second u. Did that take a hit from environment? What's above the b in pluribus I suspect environmental too. How about the e in e pluribus? Did that take a hit too? And then we have something between the e and the d in United and above the end in United I think I'm getting better at this but no way as good as you guys and gals thanks
Remember that the devices (the raised parts on the coin) are incuse on the die. Each number of the date is recessed into the die face, so grease and debris can get into each, any or all of them. The reverse is nicks and grooves (damage) from circulation
A Struck Thru Grease/debris can manifest itself it a limitless number of ways on the surface of a coin. Your coin is a good example of that. I see four different location on your coin where the STG prominently shows up.

It sometime hard to say just what is what on a coin from just photos, the second 'U' could be smaller due to a bit a debris in the die, first one smooshed a little, or both things. It is not an uncommon thing to see.
You people are amazing so many different opinions so much to learn. By the way I remember seeing a list of Lincoln cents with errors on here it was a long list and I can't find it somebody point me in the right direction thank you very much
