  1. I IMG_1265[1].JPG IMG_1266[1].JPG I am an armature coin collector when I found this coin in some pocket change I want to know if it is an error coin or a defaced so professional coin collectors help please. All I know is that the date somewhat resembles 1975 and can't see the mint mark at all! I am mostly curios because I spent no money to get this dime but just curious if I found something cool or a piece of rubbish.

Looks like a parking lot coin that has been run over by many cars. Do you see copper on the edge? If so, it is clad and maybe worth $0.10 and if not, it might be silver and worth melt value

Looks like it's done time in the parking lot. It's not silver, is it?

  5. I truly have no clue at all if it is silver ima go weigh it and will find out soon to give more info

  6. K edit I have found out it is about 3 grams I don't have a mega precise scale also I don't see any copper on the edges so I think it is silver meaning melt value is good so there's that probably worth more as a dime worth 10 cents than anything else.

3 grams that seem to be to much for silver or clad the average silver rossie weighs around 2.5 grams and the clad dimes weigh less. Are you sure your scale is calibrated.

Show the edge. You can see the clad over copper core if it is clad.

  9. my scale is a baking scale I use for coins and should probably get a better one but it rounds to the nearest gram so if it was around 2.5 then it would be silver most likely

  10. Thanks all for the info really helpful

Get a Yeoman Red Book and a better weight scale and you could be absolutely certain for yourself.

In the meantime, go to John Wexler’s website doubleddie.com and read everything there, especially the minting process and how dies are made. You will be a better collector by lightyears once you understand these numismatic principles…imo…Spark

@Penguin who like coins you should study and watch some videos on how coins are minted and then you would be able to answer the question you posted here, but members here are glad to point you in the correct direction. Welcome and good luck. Oh, BTW, thanks for posting the photos Full Image.
