This just in...all I can say is, "Hallelujah"! Ryder resigning as U.S. Mint director Oct. 1 (coinworld.com)
I wish I had confidence that this would actually help the mint solve some of its myriad problems, but something tells me we're probably in for more of the same.
Sad to hear that as the mint was actually exciting again and moved back to an elite status under him. Hopefully the mint doesnt just revert to being incredibly boring and years behind the international mints again
I don't think so. IMHO any change will be an improvement. I hope that whoever is appointed permanently can totally reorganize the Mint and, most importantly, how it does business.
I don't really know enough about the man's track record or involvement in every aspect of the US Mint's day to day operations, but I can say from a customer's perspective the last two years has been a dumpster fire of poor user experience. Hopefully the current Acting Director and the next Director can take a lesson from, say, one of the many, many functional online retailers on how to sell a product without angering most of your customer base.
I know of many politicians who anger their base all the time...maybe that's where Ryder learned his craft...
That's because people were actually interested in the products. Things go very smoothly when no one wants it Theres numerous products that everything works perfectly fine because no one really cares. The mints of the world have the same issues when theres something everyone wants
I'm steering far and away from any political discussions tonight haha I just know my order for the 2-coin ASE RP set is still stuck as "Processing" and I will be absolutely furious if my order for the 2021 Peace Dollars gets cancelled or screwed up.
Might I ask why such an overtly political statement from a member of the moderation team is acceptable? I understand that the mod team is given a modicum of discretion when it comes to the subject, and I don't care about your politics for that matter but shouldn't the members of the moderation team lead by example?
Perhaps you are one that had no problems with the accurate and safe transport of mail. I certainly did and it wasn't the fault of the local office. My package was broken open either by accident or purposely . I received a portion of it with a note saying the rest was sent to Atlanta and contact then. They had the phones off the hook and for 2 weeks, I couldn't get a response. I gave up as it wasn't the sender's fault. I couldn't care if it was a Martian, as long as they did their job. And if the boss decides it is political, he will remove it, and I will live with it. Jim
I've learned that POLITICAL only applies to other people who disagree with you. You're just spreading common cents.
Based on numerous example of recent finds of rare and valuable numismatic items, Congressmen and Mint Directors should have their belongings thoroughly searched for items that were legally supposed to be returned to the Mint and destroyed after inspection.
