Will you ever be finished collecting??

I'm not sure if I ever will be finished as I don't have any collecting goals.. I’m not looking to complete any sets or runs etc..

So, for me there's no finish line. There's no point at which I will just need that one last note to complete the collection but on the other hand, with no collecting goal, I may actually be finished already…

    or am I???

I'm at the point where there is very little for me to collect in US coins. The only holes are those that are very cost prohibitive and likely not in circulation. In order to keep my hands in the hobby I decided a couple of years ago to buy uncleaned ancients. Clean, ID, attribute and catalog 100 ancients. I didn't want to just buy 100 coins. I wanted to find them like the CRH process. I have finished and ended up with more than 100. No more of that. Running out of things to do.

Complete? Do I own multiple copies of numismatic item I am interested in? If not, then no. Since this is under paper money, I don't have a complete set of fractional currency or notes printed by Franklin, so no where near complete. Also, I started expanding more into colonial paper money, finding more interesting things to own as I read more like Revere printed notes, etc.

When I am dead that is about as "complete" as my collection will get. Always something new to get interested in.

I never collect things that can have a complete set. That way I never get frustrated by an empty hole, so to speak.

I have another 60+ years of live to live, unless there is some massive event causing my untimely death, I plan to collect for many more years.

I've always been a collector of something. Started with Pokemon cards in the early years of their existence. Turned to my dads baseball cards from the 70s. Turned into state quarters with my mother at around 7.

Grandmother took me to a flea market where there was an older guy (who had cancer, or something) who had a couple binders of world coins, some US. I had 5 bucks a week to get whatever I wanted. His junk bin inspired me to dive headfirst into coins.

If I do finish a collection, I'll just start another. Maybe as I age this will change.

    No.

I am into too many areas, and there are some pieces that are either too expensive, too rare or just don't interest me.

For example, I have collected 19th century presidential campaign tokens and medals for 30 years. I have somewhere around 500 pieces. I could have had more, but when the pieces only says "Republican or Democrat candidate for president" I don't go out of my way to buy those items. Pieces that have a slogan that had something to do with the major issues of the campaign interest me far more. Interesting images grab my attention too.

What? You never collected Garbage Pail Kids cards? They’re worth a small fortune now. Lol

I have some of those, too. Somewhere. Not super old ones, though.
I was born only in 2002

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

I have hopes that I can complete sets that I'm working on - that's the whole point.

However, when I finish that set, then I can upgrade it. Or I can start on a new set.

So, no, my overall collection will never be complete.

I collect whatever catches my fancy at the moment. I have often seen coins on CT that I then started hunting for. If the hunt continues for awhile, sometimes I just let it go...I'm fickle.

My collection won't be complete until it's all sold off or spent!

I'm always "upping" my goals. First, it's just to collect a complete set of one thing, then it's collect them in MS condition, and then it's collect them in the highest grade possible, so NO I will only complete it when I've died.

As long as the mint keeps coming up with dumb stuff for circulation, my collection isn't complete.

The key word here being 'circulation'?

Yup. I'm a junk guy. I've bought all i really plan on buying. My last item, is a 2010W ASE, then I'm literally done with buying. Otherwise, my entire collection is inherited, found, or swapped.

It seems that collecting is an unruly obsession... I've always been a collector of some sort since I was a kid.. baseball cards, comics, coins, exonumia then currency.. primarily I have always collected "found" items like putting together a set of baseball cards bought from packs or finding coins and currency in circulation...

Though in later years I have purchased old notes and a few coins as there's no other way to obtain them but still only collect Ungraded items.. for some reason I don't like slabbed cards/comics or coins/currency etc.. not sure why but prefer having them loose and the search and finding them in circulation is still a thrill for me

but there always seems to be something else that catches my interest so really can't ever see myself not acquiring a new "something" :)

I completed the collection I wanted to but now I do not have the disposable income for self to start another collection unless I sell the first.
