I realize about the holes. It won't be my only attempt and I will eventually get it right. I also will add penny next time.
E-bay tries to sell you on these low cost auctions but they rarely work, Best Bet sell it for the price you need and dont forget the high fees you will have to pay both e-bay and pay pal, If it doesnt sell hang on to it.
This is just awful.I started the bidding off on this, got outbidded once around 15 bucks so I kicked it up to 20 bucks or something like that as a temporary measure, and I totally forgot about the auction. I just logged into ebay and indeed there was little bidding activity. I only collect BU examples, but I wanted them for the older ones to use as fillers until I get the proper reds, and give the rest away to a friends of ours kid. Im thinking that starting the bidding off @ .99 cents may have sent the wrong message to the uneducated that they are worth squat so they were not prepared to make much of a financial move to get them. Just my opinion.
Hey sweet...mind me asking, conservatively, what would you have felt would have been an appropriate winning price for these?
I like the how the other one put 241 penny's and their main picture was lit where the later dates had some real shine on them. Most ebay people I think would like those 2 things. And the title adding penny would help too.
There is no rhyme or reason why things happen. For instance, I was trying to sell two really nice high grade IKEs and I had different results. The first auction I started the auction off at 99cents with a reserve of $29. No luck. I relisted them as buy it now for $29. No luck. This last auction, I listed them for 99 cents with no reserve or anything. Just sold them both for $75. All three auctions were started at the same time and ended at the same time. Today was just the lucky day. Last week, almost the same thing happened with another pair of IKEs I was selling. There have been many auctions where I have lost the house (not literally, of course) but you know what I mean. Basically, I took a big loss. Then the next auction, I will strike it big on a coin that I bought for cheap. This is all part of the challenge and excitement with ebay.
When I research something I wish to sell, be it anything, I look at the auction of whom ever sold it for the most and try to make my auction as close to the same as theirs as possible, I.E. Format, Time and Day of sale. Don't feel bad, I messed up BIG time once and scheduled 20 coin auctions to end on a Saturday. Thought great!!!, didn't realize that Saturday fell on the 4th of July... oops! they all went dirt cheap. You Live and Learn. P.S. Holidays are a good time to hunt though, slightly less competition, Mwahaha!!!
Not on ebay anyways, especially on the auction side. Timing seems to be everything with these sales. One item listed will bring in $5 total and on the next page you will see almost the exact same thing and it will bring $25!! With a bottom line like that you never want to sell something without a starting price unless you're willing to give it away. Sometimes the lessons we learn on ebay are ugly and profitless! That said, you won't forget the lesson learned that's for sure. Better luck next time!
Doesn't your example illustrate my exact point that there is no rhyme or reason for why things happen on ebay?
Thats funny you say that, had I dilegently stayed with the auction, I would have capped it off around there as well. Hope you do better next time
Very True the main listing should have search words in it Lincoln, Memorial, Penny, Wheat It also appears to me the other coins are higher quality may simply be over exposure on the pic but the red stands out more
Another factor - the ending time was right in the middle of an NFL playoff game. One key is to end it when the most folks might be watching, so avoid any unusual major events. Also, make sure it's late enough that West Coast folks can check it out (i.e. after 6pm Pacific time) yet early enough that East Coast guys can dial you up (i.e. before 10pm Eastern time). That means there is only one hour of Prime Time in there : 6-7pm Pacific time.
this is an example of why ebay should only be used for generating leads, and even than, most leads you generate on ebay aren't very good ones because they only trust you when you sell to them on ebay, so my conclusion is that the only way to get what you want for your coins is to either open up a coin shop or build your online presence and sell to your own community. The way I suggest to do this is by starting your own forum with your own domain (best choice for sustainable business), or to start up a group on a social networking site such as facebook (quickest, but you've got to be careful not to hard sell or else the social networking site could shut you down, which you shouldn't even hard sell on your forum on your own domain anyway because you might turn people off). That's just my 2cents.
I use Auctiva, and they give you 24 supersize pictures , it's about 3 bucks a month for 15 auctions a month, prices go up for more items a month.
Absolutely positively!! Two things are needed to make a good time on ebay and the first one is if you want a certain amount or minimum, you have to start with that price. The other thing is to find some items that you don't care that much about like stuff you paid $5 for and go on a gambling spree one ebay. That means take those $5 coins and place those in the auctions. Ebay is a big gamble most of the time, so you gotta take risks. I plan on making money on there some day, but I say that everytime-- maybe next time.
The major problem is that you listed some dates in red. Why? As I read the listing, I wondered if those red dates were included or not. Sure, you wanted to highlight them, but-- next time say why they are in red at the top of the column.
Red lettering confusing, missing some pretty common ones plus Red lettering confusing, missing some pretty common ones plus you really just gave away the memorials - probably would have got the same money had they not been included. Also, you list 1966 thru 67-D??? maybe some were not convinced you knew what you were doing?
