If that is a scratch between the eagle's left wing (viewer's right) and the wreath, it is a Details coin.
it is to me a scratch but given the rest of the coins condition PCGS graded it 65 dmpl That’s why my putting it up for others to opine on
That may or may not be, but grading from a photo is not very conclusive. Is it the rim that causes your to think the TPG opinion is generous, or the Clashes , or the scratch that may or may not be, or the lines above the ear, or that you don't think it is a DMPL? I don't have the talent to give a grade opinion from photos, so I am always interested how a person perceives an up or down on grade opinions.
I wanted to see what the forum thought about the coin if they thought it should be graded or not Pcgs his Had an opinion I already have that I can tell you that it definitely looks like a scratch and I would be highly surprised if it was anything other than that it just seems that because of the rest of the coin Pcgs as tolerated this scratch I’ve seen this before On a R seven pattern coin. The thing had tons of hair lines yet they called it greedy at 63
I would like to think it is a bag mark. DMPL exaggerate every nick ding and bag mark. I like it at that grade, unless of course it is damage. I would have to see the coin in hand, or, have a no questions asked return policy paying the shipping and handling both ways.
My opinion is that you are unnecessarily concerned. It is, from the photos, a very handsome piece (yes, I know...handsome vs. beautiful and the whole woman thing) and my opinion is it is a DMPL based on the photos, and I appreciate the manner in which the Clashes stand out because of the contrast. Scratch. smatch.... if it is a scratch, what is the real issue? The Grade may or may not be excessive? Would a person return the piece to the TPG and request and pay for a Details Grade instead, based on an opinion that it may or may not be a scratch?
