This. I've bought from him once before, and got a decent coin for the money, but as mentioned, he and another dealer were exposed as artificial patinators (wow, what a term, huh?). Here's the main thread about it, in which @Bob L. used some of the finest satirical snarkasm I've seen deployed on these forums. I used to watchlist a lot of his stuff, because I am admittedly a sucker for sandy patinas. I haven't heard of any issue with him selling fake coins. Just fake patinas.
wow - it seems impossible in the hobby to get around different huskery. I just brought two coins from him. I hope it wasn't a mistake.
This bottom one, especially , is obviously a problem in context of the other thread. When I looked at it, I thought, what is a dessert patina? I was impressed with the incscription, though, and it was inexpensive, so I bit, like a fish being lured by a worm on a hook.
These patinas appear to be applied to hide some corrosion, which is my fear. I had two prutah, and one was pretty suspicious. Got rid of it before it dissolved into nothing.
I have purchased five Arab/Byz coins from him including two Pseudo Damascus die pairs; Goodwin published in 2011, plate 93 as Kalb Tribe, Erbid Hord,, Cat 2. I've looked at thousands of Arab/Byz since I started collecting AB's in the 80's when they first caught my eye as "wierd" Byzantines. Mine match perfectly with the Erbid hoard coins. Sorry, the pic hasn't been processed yet. I can't see any evidence of "fixing" on any of the coins I have purchased from him. I have no problem with ordering from him. Shipping and communications have been very good.
