Does this denarius look fishy to you?

I guess I got tricked, but I'm not offended. I'd actually like to own that coin and I like tests/tricks too so maybe this was a ploy to generate bids.

And I got to post my coins again!

My reception here was much like this though.

I am not familiar with Collectors Universe, and will have to read your links when I have a chance. I also know nothing about gaming -- except for playing Monopoly with my son when he was young! He was never into them either.

    I wasn't one either.

    CU is the PCGS board.
Forgive me if I came off poorly in the above comment.

No worries. I took a quick look at the CU thread but my eyes glazed over. I hate reading that kind of Internet argument.

The fact that the lettering isn't gibberish makes it better than many contemporary fakes.

    What a piece of trash.
Thanks for sharing further what most of us already knew.
I can only presume, as @DonnaML is relatively new here and hasn't had as much time watching these trolls unravel and seeing the signs is why she is such a supporter.
She is one of my favorite posters to read, in general, and has wonderful taste in RRs. But if she would rather not read your attached threads to see what a creepo she is defending then I will respectfully ask her to not tag me in defense of her pal again. She and I have talked about it in PM, she has already stated nearly verbatim what she said to me earlier in this post in others, agree to disagree.
Though, this is exactly the kind of nonsense drama tongue in the pie Blake (goodness that was a gross Pic) wants to stir up.

Ps, gat dang. Did I just see that this is just it posting another coin that's live at auction?! Is that what this is?
is this troll just trying to raise awareness for coins they are selling while being a rude, condescending, know nothing know it all???

Oh, for God's sake. I don't deserve this. Blake isn't my "pal," fyi, and saying I don't think she intentionally trolls doesn't make me her "supporter." And I did, in fact, eventually read those threads. I was able to see comments only on the second one, by the way. So the point is she sold a coin she said she was only interested in trading? Maybe she changed her mind? To me, she doesn't even compare to the two trolls I've seen in my admittedly brief time here, namely since the end of Jan. 2020 -- the guy who claimed to be some kind of Persian prince who cursed and essentially made death threats towards anyone who outbid him on a coin, and the guy who said all sorts of things about keeping his expensive coins secret from his wife and made misogynist comments along the way.

Edit* ugh, I remember them. Yuck, those trolls were pretty bad. I'm very glad they are gone. And we can certainly agree to disagree.

Ryro, of course you said something untoward about me. You lumped me together with Blake and called me her pal and her supporter. Now you're calling me a troll apologist. All because I expressed my opinion that she isn't a troll, at least not intentionally. I didn't say that she's a troll less bad than others! I've never once said that I agreed with her opinions. Nobody's more diametrically opposed to her position on slabs, on seemingly buying only from Heritage, and on refusing to buy from non-US dealers, than I am. You don't get to mischaracterize my position and expect me not to push back. That isn't playing the victim card. I am not a victim; nor have I ever been! You should know by now that I don't take kindly to people saying things about me that aren't true. You've made a huge mistake by doing so. And also by disclosing the content of our private exchanges. Also, I didn't "tag" you gratuitously, first or otherwise; I replied to your comment and said I disagreed. There's a big difference.

I have to say that you are "generally" one of my favorite posters as well. Despite the fact that sometimes, as in this case, you go overboard with insulting people. (Even when it's justifiable.) Which is why I keep suggesting that we agree to disagree about this. But no, you've got to hit me with your shotgun blast as well.

@DonnaML I do apologize for saying you were their pal and all that. That wasn't fair and isn't true. I just felt a bit burned as you had repeated what you and I have spoken about a few times previously.
Truthfully, I was trying to be a Donna apologist, pointing out that you haven't seen the slow burn some of these wackados have as they get more and more weird. And that I believe that was why you don't agree with something I believe to be obvious. But you are entitled to your opinions (which, even if I once in a blue moon don't agree with, love to read).
Rereading my comment, I'd have been unhappy as well if you said that to me. I can be a piece of work. But I'm always trying to improve and be more loving. The "in general" comment was merely that I disagree on this singular topic. I thoroughly enjoy your posts and think you are an amazing woman.
Sorry again. Hopefully we'll be pals again:shy:

@Ryro @DonnaML with great respect I'd like to point out that I greatly enjoy reading both of your posts here. Both of you have a passion for ancient coins and a thirst for more knowledge and research. You are both important members of this forum.

I would like to point out that the whole "raison de troll" is to get people pissed off at each other and ruin otherwise civil forums. I honestly don't know if @Gam3rBlake is a pure troll, someone just trying to drum up interest in coins she has at auction, or someone with a learning disability.

However, if she is a troll, then you're both falling exactly into her plans.

Putting it in a different way, as a former New Yorker, may I just please say pretty please, with sugar on top, stop the #(*#&$ bickering!

In celebration, her is my latest RR. Not nearly as nice as the sweet showstoppers you post, but a little cutie none the less. I moved it from my RR collection to my Macedonian collection and back again. Finally deciding that since it was after the annexation, despite being provincial, it has Roma on it and deserved to spend its days with other friends from the same place in time:

If you really wanted to know what are the signs that it's a fourree, I suggest you could have just posted a picture of the coin in it's holder and asked. I for one, would have taken the time to tell you. As others had done for me in the past, when I bought a fourree.

Having said that, I don't like to play such "games". AncientJoe and Doug have already posted what are the giveaways that the coin is a fourree. I agree with what they posted, for example the raised bumps in the silver.

There are very convincing fourrees which can still fool us even in the 21st century. For example those with a complete silver plating, correct weight, convincing style etc. However, this is certainly not one of them. It certainly doesn't require a professional. Just some experience.

About whether it's better to buy coins in slabs, I think that topic has been discussed at length, not going to talk about that and start another argument. You can buy slabbed of course, I for one will prefer to buy raw. We don't compete, win-win, everyone's happy.

The reason I didn’t just post what the coin was is because it’s easy to identify a fake coin when you already know it’s fake. When no one gives you information about the coin you have to rely only on your own knowledge & observations which is the entire point of why I asked.

I wanted to see if the people on here could identify a high quality fake like they claim when they tell people slabs are not recommended or if they would be fooled by a good fake thus proving that slabbed coins are the smart way to go.

The only people who got frustrated with me for doing so are the people who feel entitled and think the entire forum belongs to themselves. I don’t care what those people think. I just block them.

In the end this post achieved its goal which is to prove to Ancient collectors that even highly skilled and knowledgeable collectors can be easily fooled by a high quality counterfeit and thus I hope this has taught people to stop bashing on slabbed coins since (as this post has proven) slabbed coins are much more likely to be authentic than raw ones since NGC experts were able to identify this fake whereas the majority of this forum could not tell it was fake.

Which means there are probably many collectors well known on this forum who have lots of raw coins that they think are authentic but are actually fakes and they don’t know they are fakes because they haven’t sent them in for grading.

Oh and if I told people that the coin was a fake from the start they would’ve all pretended like they knew it was a fake because most people don’t want to admit that they got duped and fell for a fake. That would defeat the purpose of this thread because when collectors buy raw coins they don’t come with a slab or information of any kind and collectors have to rely on their own knowledge & observation.

Now when I see collectors bashing slabbed coins or telling newcomers not to buy slabbed coins I can refer them to this post and they can see that buying slabbed coins is the right way to go for anyone who is not a professional and buying raw coins is taking a huge risk no matter where you buy them from or how reputable the seller is because there are always high quality fakes like the one in my OP that fooled almost everyone.

No the whole V75 was a misunderstanding and even the person who originally misunderstood me (blu75corvette) admits that it wasn’t my fault and he misunderstood what I was saying. He even apologized to me for all the annoying people like Evan that I had to deal with because of it.

He made an offer and I said I’d think about it and then changed my mind and decided not to sell it afterall.

That is not a scam or even against the rules.

But the trolls make it sound like what I did was agreed to an offer and gave a handshake to seal the deal only to later withdraw from the deal which is not even remotely close to what happened.

How delusional does someone have to be to think just because someone asks for offers on something it means they MUST sell it to the first person to make an offer?

Unfortunately there are people out there who love to cause drama because it makes them feel better about themselves to see someone else being bashed on and attacked.

I don’t care about those people though. I ignored Evan and all the other drama queens long ago. It’s not worth it to waste my time defending myself from accusations that they make up to create drama and hostility.

You've included the most respected members of our forum in this statement. Had Trajan crawled out of the grave and gotten annoyed by this game, would you have ignored him too?

Please help me. I'm drowning in missed conclusions, incorrect assumptions, and drivel. I feel a tremendous force here that's wasting everyone's time.
