Do these holders actually produce toners or is it all marketing hype? Did they really give away both peace dollars and morgan dollar sin them?
And if they do, how can one tell if its the original coin?
I am asking because I see this peace $ toner
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/334141492613?hash=item4dcc628d85%3Ag%3AfQwAAOSwJhphOSh7&nma=true&si=Ni0V7xHtDJRgNtpTPU0fq5%252Bosu0%253D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

    This morgan toner $

Then this empty holder that sold

Whats your take on these american savings & Loan holders? Are they legit?

Disclaimer: I am asking about the the holders ability to produce toners themselves, nothing to do with any of the sellers reputations in the links above

I don't think those holders have anything to do with toning. The people that bought those silver dollars were BIDIOTS! I don't even consider that sort of discoloration to be attractive. In all likelihood, some slimeball put those silver dollars in the cases to attract some sucker to pay too much for them, and the dirtbag succeeded.

If the paper itself was processed by the Kraft company ( very common), it was likely made from what was called Sulfite process, which as time goes by can release sulfur gases ( sulfur dioxides )which can react with coin metal , so yes it is possible if the holder is genuine. I have heard of some toning silver coins by holding them over a crucible of smoldering sulfur.
Since color in toning is dependent on repetitive exposures, leaving a coin in such a holder for years will produce a monotone color , so not very attractive to most. IMO, Jim

Yes, they did cause silver to tarnish just like the Tidy House cardboard holders.

The holders are cardboard and they were not designed to be archival, so they have sulfur in the paper. Kept in close contact with silver the silver will start to tarnish. If you get lucky and the tarnish is "pretty" it's toning. If it isn't pretty it's tarnish. The coloration on the coins in the two posted auctions is nothing special, but at least it's even and not a ugly mottled tarnish.
