Comparing automobiles to coins is a stretch. The automobile comes with a warranty and if you find something that needs to be repaired, the warranty will pay the cost if it is within the warranty period. Many automobile companies will allow you to return the car within their warranty period. Some will return the total outlay that was paid when the car was purchased. It's up to the buyer to take the automobile home and go through it with a fine tooth to ensure the automobile is in marketable condition.
When you purchase a coin or other product you receive a "Packing Slip/Return Label" with the instructions on the back. If a replacement is available, you can ask them for a refund or a replacement.
Many of the products we buy at the Mint, do not have replacements, and therefore they will give you a refund. I can't remember if they will refund the shipping cost.
A few years back, I bought the gold Mercury Dime. The display box was in poor shape and I asked for a replacement. the gold Mercury Dime also had a small scratch. I called them and reported my findings. I was told that I could have a refund since there were none available. I told them I had to think about it. You won't believe this, but I got an email from the Mint notifying me that a replacement gold Mercury Dime was available if I wanted to return the damaged gold Mercury Coin. I asked if they had looked at it to see the condition. I was told they had not looked at it. I turned the offer down because I figured that the replacement might be as bad or worse than the one I had.
Be careful if you ask for a replacement. It might be worse than the one you have. It would be nice if the could send the replacement before I returned mine so that I cold select which gold Mercury Coin is the better.

Like me you must be a commoner. We get what's left, like it or not. You are lucky you even got one. Thanks for posting it.

They don't guarantee a perfect MS70, but there certainly is the expectation that you'll receive a product of high quality.

I'm pretty sure there are a lot of people who order multiples (when that option is available) just so they can pick the best and return the rest.

The Mint says you can get cut off if, in their opinion, you're abusing their return processes, but I don't know what their threshold is.

Well, if it's a limited release, they probably don't have problem-free replacements on hand, and it's not like they can offer a repair service. (Although, don't give them any ideas...)

The just inspect the returns to the same minimal standard and put them back up for sale. Where do you think the small quanties offered at 7:30am Eastern time months later come from?????

A coin with a single hit is high quality.

It's the misguided expectation that every mint product has to be perfect that has made ultramodern 69s all but worthless and has pressured the TPGs to slab way more 70s than is justifiable.

Do you get fresh (mint sealed rolls) or secondary market? I ask because secondary market rolls usually have been picked over for MS70 candidates. When I see such blatant damage on a proof coin I can't help but think the coin was damaged post mint.

I have purchased some rolls from the mint for Dansco's I have. Not routinely. Just a few times.

This looks like an uncirculated from Sept. 9th, not a proof. Do they have the same amount of QC on these? No mintage limit so who knows how many they're making. Maybe they will send you a replacement since there's no mintage limit?

When they get your coin back I doubt they destroy it. They just send it to the next guy and hope it does not come back again. They are just indifferent. Customer service is dead and gone. RIP

Well, I started this thread, so here is another. I received this 2021 morgan in the mail today. Is it my luck or is there something else going on. I'll call her scarface. Anyone else getting more than what they paid for? 20211026_114757.jpg 20211026_114751.jpg

You can return it for a refund or keep it those are your only choices.

If you return it they'll just resell it to some other sucker ( customer ).

I feel for you. I bought a 2021W EAN from the Mint and was charged for 2. I called the Mint and a refund was given to me as those coins were sold out at the time. Also, I had an enrollment for 3 of them before that and I got 3 beautiful Type 2 coins. However, I got an email telling me they made a mistake and that my VISA had already been charged and I would like to keep them if I could. They were nice enough and they said that since it was on the Enrollment and I had already paid for it, that it was OK to keep them. It was one of the nicest calls from the Mint I ever got. Evidently, they do have some great Customer Service staff.
