as I was looking through my coins, I came accross this, what appears to be a brithish gold piece. I have no idea the denomination or anything but the year 1903. Can someone help me out?
If it is actually gold it is a Sovereign. That design was minted from 1902-1910 (9 years).The mintage of the 1903 was the 3rd lowest @ 8,889,000. Weight should be 7.9881 g @ .9170 gold = .2355 oz AGW K&M 6th Edition (2009) list its value at XF= 225 & UNC = $265
unless it is a half sovereigns were the mintage was 2522057 . but weigh the coin the half is half of a full sovereign now the bv value is as of tonight is for a full sovereign $265 hope were helpful dave
If you have no scale .... A sovereign is a about the size of a USA nickel and a 1/2 sovereign is a about the size of a USA dime
Given the rise in gold prices you should get at least something between the XF and UNC catalogue price if you were going to sell it...
