Rolls full of beautiful, shimmering, uncirculated coinage. Nothing worse than taking the time to get a box full of coins, opening it up back at the house and realizing its all brand new! :(

I have only ever found 2 older Canadians in all of the rolls I’ve searched that’s probably why I’m not interested in them lol. Some of the designs are quite cool and maybe if I find more older stuff I will be more interested in the future. The newer dimes are the ones I seem to get stuck with quite often :vomit:

Why not pop it open at the bank? That's what I do. If it's a bunch of brand new coins that I don't want, I just deposit it right back into my account and they get it back.

Do you find them in the dryers or is this in ordinary circulation / rolls? (And if you find them in the dryers, how is that accomplished? It's not like you can pop the lint filter...)

Most of my rolls come from convenient stores. A lot of the rolls come from individuals who roll their coins and make a purchase, not a lot of looms rolls. The store clerks save these rolls for me so there’s a good mix, lots of copper. This is why i find these dryer coins.

I don't collect German coins and if I get one, I toss it. Many of you probably had a family member serve in WWII. My father, 2 uncles and a great uncle. My great uncle was killed in Normandy. My father stayed in the military until he was hit by a mortar in Vietnam. Anyway, he was transferred to German in 1953 to 1957 and again in 1965 ti 1967. My other hobby is or was building plastic airplane models. I built the Bf-109 in 1954 and decaled it with standard German decals. I was pretty proud of it. My father told me he was proud of the work I had done and then he threw the model in the trash and crushed it into little pieces. I asked him why. He told me that the decals represented something terrible and there was no place in our home for a Nazi emblem. Therefore, that's the reason I don't collect German coins.

So, what is your suggested approach to depositing bank rolled (i.e.: LOOMIS OBWs) that you've searched through looking for W mint marks? I reuse the original wrapper and tape back the end I opened. Do you have a different suggestion? Should I mark them in some way to know that they've been searched? I though the tape was the telltale sign.

Pretty much you covered it. my biggest peeve is cents or nickels or foreign coins or short changed rolls in quarter rolls. One $500 box cost me $18.50 never seen it so bad in my life tons of foreign and rolls that were one or two quarters short.

I ran into that while visiting my grandson in NC, we went through $10.00 in Lincolns to see if he could add anything to his newly started collection, when we went to the bank to turn them in I had marked them with a black pen to indicate to others that the rolls had been searched and they refused to accept them. I checked with BofA here in Springfield and they would accept them. I guess it depends on where you are.

I agree with Mark. I always try to re-wrap in the same wrappers. And when you get BWRs, the only way to do this is to carefully open one end, then when re-filled, fold over and tape that end. And yes, that should be a telltale sign. I also put a small "X" on the roll, which my CU knows and has no problem with. In fact, sometimes they tell me that the only coins they have are ones I brought back. I imagine they might tell other collectors that same thing. I'd hope they would tell me.
And I suppose it doesn't hurt that when I give them my account number they can see I have a fair amount of money in their accounts plus a home loan.

I get empty wrappers from the bank. Sometimes I can reuse older customer wrappers that remain empty due to the "keepers".

Is there any way to get credited for that stuff? I'd complain for sure.

I've never seen taped BWRs. It's only CWRs.

I hit a roll of straight 1979 SBAs last week. All were MS or close to it, really nice rims, BUT... each one had glue on the back. (When I got the roll, it looked like there were 28 or 29 coins in it, so I thought I hit a bonus. Nope - 25 coins, thickened by glue.) Obviously they had been glued to paper or posterboard, perhaps since 1979, and someone just decided to pull them and cash them in without removing the glue.

And of course none of the coins was a wide rim or a proof!

Are greasers really that valuable? I seem to find them all the time and to me they just look ugly, like a really weak strike.

mild ones (only a few letters missing, from 1.00 to 6.00 major ones where 1/3 of the coin or more can go upwards of 30.00 check out ebay and usa coin book, i have purchased a lot of them..i usually buy ones where 10% or more is blocked, the smaller types i get from rolling hunting...get em for face...people on here say nav, but there are people buying them, which means there is a market, hence value....
