A Questionable Penny

  1. Before I leave, What happened to this penny? I found it while coin roll hunting. The unusually flat looking rim is slightly concave.

I will say that the edge of your coin has been filed or sanded off.

Not the real deal an imitation of a error which in this case would be a straight clip.Still a decent old copper cent i would keep it for educational purposes.

    Pick one:
    1. Because they don't have anything better to do.
    2. Because they're stupid.
    3. Because they want to try to rip someone off.
    4. All of the above.

If filed off it’s damaged and worth face value. If a clip (incomplete planchet) it’s worth more. There’s the curved clip, a straight clip and a ragged clip. Yours appears to be damaged.

i have even gotten some of these from (normally) reputable dealers,,,,many with feedback in the tens of thousands...just once in a while they slip and sell a coin that is altered, i always send em back for full refund.and explanation as to why...
