How could PCGS miss this artificial toning here

    I am sorry this happened to you, and just to take your experience at face value (after all this is just discussion on the internet and I have no first hand knowledge), it doesn't completely surprise me. We have a Metallurgist who claims that even under a scanning electorn microsope that he cound never tell the difference between an AT coins oxidation or a NT coins oxidation. We have several examples where coins are bagged and then resubmited and slabbed... and vice-versa. It is hard to know on limited criteria if a coin is ATed or not and they often don't get it right. They are under real financial constraints as to how much they can do. They shouldn't slab these coins without reasonable pedigree or a known mechanism to allow for the toning they are observing. False positives undermine credibitly and errode the market. False negatives can be fustrating (body bagged - no slab or sticker).

    QC is questionable color.
    I believe ICG uses that phrase.
