Not really. Just owning any INB slabs just makes me feel icky. This happened today. No clue how. Either way, I'll fix it and throw it back in my box. I got this one in a PCGS cent lot, and have since tried to get rid of it. Literally, these are unsellable.
Anyone have funny slabs from them? I personally like the “New World Era Pirate” ones. Like that means all that much.
Hehe I have a pirate cob in one and a set of 20 or so indian cents that I bought cheap for 3-4 of the coins.. and yeah not sealed in any way but still a nice enough coin holder for display purposes
I fixed it. Still doesn’t make the grade or the holder more legitimate. Just was strange when it came out of my box like the photo. you don’t have to
As far as current slabs go...no expert or knowing much about the science of which is more secure/protective, etc...I like the NGC slabs best from an aesthetic perspective. Favor the four smaller retainer prongs and in white/with white insert, background, etc. for the coin. Think you can see more of the rims in this holder, also. I just wish one of the BIG boys would get the "jump" on the other and start regularly orienting the reverse label to the coin's reverse. Just can't be that difficult and am sure they've heard enough about it.
That reminds me of my most recent visit to my Grandparents this past summer. Here's my best recollection of events from when my Grandfather told me he bought a "graded" ancient coin. My Grandfather: Hey Brad, I bought this graded ancient coin on eBay. Me: What is it? My Grandfather: I don't know; it doesn't say so on the slab (he overlooks "authentic" ancient bronze coin). Me: What does it look like? My Grandfather: It's smooth. I can't tell the front from the back (he has bad eyesight, for that matter). Me: Can I see the listing on your iPad? (he hands me the Ipad) Me: I hate to break it to you, but you just wasted your money. My Grandfather: (looks at me incredulously) What?????? (imagine this in the loudest indoor voice possible) Me: First off, the coin is an unidentifiable slug. There's nothing here to tell whether it's Roman or if it's even a coin, for that matter. Me: Second, INB is a notorious self-slabber. Me: I go into a long monologue about the practices of self-slabbers and the dubious nature of INB. My Grandfather: Doesn't matter. It's still graded. He still had to pay to have it graded. Me: My Grandmother: Harold (in a slightly angry and shrill voice), perhaps you should ask Brad before bidding on this sort of thing. Me: I agree with her perh......... My Grandfather: unintelligible..... My Grandmother: unintelligible........ Silence....... My Grandfather: Well, I guess I'll be more careful about bidding on "ancient" coins from now on. Me: That's a good idea. Just be sure not to bid on any coins graded by "INB" from now on. There are only a few dealers on eBay I'd recommend for ancient coins (casually mentions Victor's Imperial Coins & Romae Aeternae Numismatics) Me: (Silently in my head) I don't think he had his hearing aids in when I said that.
Currently the PCGS slab is the best. Its got the best optical clarity, is water proof, is scratch resistant, and has the chips in them now. For some reason NGC makes it a significant upcharge (unless you use express or higher) for their scratch resistant version. Penny smart dollar stupid on their part in my opinion.
No no Rattler slabs are specificaly PCGS old green label slabs... this is a rattler... The coin holes in these were slightly oversized and allowed the coin to move just a little bit, I've seen many of these "shaken" until the coin was sideways or even upside down in the slab...
That's not a rattler nor does having a green label make them one https://www.pcgs.com/holders Rattlers stop at 1.2
You're right lol posted the wrong pic (just went for the 1st green label in my camera roll lol) And of course because you pointed this out, I don't have a pic handy of one... (no pcgs at the top and dot-matrix printing on a green label)
Although it does rattle, it is not the rattler slab from PCGS. @baseball21 is correct as he often seems to be.
