No Statue of Liberty Quarter ?

Looking through the list of upcoming quarters, I noticed the Statue of Liberty is not on a coin. Instead, the coin will depict Ellis Island. Does this have anything to do with the fact that the Statue was already depicted on the New York State Quarter? I can't figure any other reason since the Statue is one of the most popular US symbols.

The SoL is not a park itself, it is a National Monument which is part of a National Park of New York Harbor. Maybe that's got something to do with it.

Also Ellis Island is a National Monument. The 1986 clad half commem featured the SoL and Immigrants coming to America. While the silver commem shows SoL in front of the Ellis Island immigration center. And the $5 gold commem has the close up of SoL face/portrait.

And in 2001 the SoL was featured on the reverse of the State Quarter.

    Statue of Liberty

The Statue of Liberty is also a National Monument so that's not the reason. Maybe since it's on the reverse of the Presidential Dollars, they decided to skip it. Also missing is Independence Hall in Philadelphia.

Independence Hall has also been featured on coins before (the bicentennial halves, if I'm not mistaken), so that could be a reason for bypassing it for the quarters.

??? I said that in my post, SoL is a National Monument, the statue is not a park. So why do you say that is not the reason?

Again Independence Hall is a National Monument, the building is not a park
    .

Either structure may fall within the care of the Parks Department but the statue and building are not themselves parks.

From the ongoing look and tone of the media campaign for The America the Beautiful Quarters the program appears to be more about natural features of key symbolic sites or the natural beauty of a specific historic site, but not necessarily a man-made feature located in these sites.

Take a look at the list of sites/designs and release dates and notice they are more about the natural features of these places rather than statues, buildings and other man-made elements.

So why are we getting a fountain on the Hot Springs quarter? :)

'Cause they tapped it...:) sort of like getting a bunch of Presidents heads on a Mount Rushmore commem.

The fountain was placed a top the natural hot springs, the fountain is not the park nor what made the hot springs a thing of beauty worth denoting in Arkansas.

This brings up a favorite quote:

The fountain is simply the faucet through which the natural wonder flows.
The water is the subject of the coin.

Man made histrical monuments will be the series AFTER the Park series

Empire State Building, Golden Gate Bridge, Saint Louis Arch, Hoover Dam, Statue of Liberty, Mount Rushmore ...etc.
