at A bus company. In general, before Constienants, it is A, and before vowels, it is AN.

English spelling is a terrible waste of human potential. If you've got the grammar and spelling knack, bully for you. If you don't, the very idea of "rules" is a cruel joke.

I had my eyes opened when I studied German in high school. "You mean... you can just look at a word's spelling, and be sure how it's pronounced? And you can almost always listen to a word and know how it's spelled?"

And then there's French, on which I blame the majority of English spelling's ills.

When a thread sinks to the levels of internet grammar police and people really caring about that, it's time to take the thread out back and shoot it and put it out of its misery

Hmm. I don't hear people down here using "yore", and I don't even see it in print as much as I did in days of yore. ;)

"an" before words starting with a vowel or a vowel sound such as the word "honest". As in "It was an honest mistake.")

If those Monty Python guys in the closing scene of "Holy Grail" stumbled onto another movie set where the Marx Brothers were filming a sequel to "The Matrix", that would be what this thread is.

And yes, I ended that sentence with a preposition, and I don't even care.

The better thing would be to see it end up in the closing scene of the Day at the Races where there is a HUGE minstril sceen with the Marx Brothers and then if can be explained by the Martix that this similation was when humanity was at its apex
