What’s Your Most Memorable Find (In Circulation)?

A pint is just right for me.
I put together almost a complete set of Lincolns as a kid.
You can guess the ones I never found.
I guess my best find ever was a bag of change at an IRS auction.
This was hiding in the bag.

I'm guessing: (a) most contributors check both forums on a regular basis; and (b) the two completely different interactions going on are because some folks have decided to follow the thread in just one forum, while others are following it in another forum.

And so, I'm going to miss all the posts in the other forum (and so many of the comments will get _less_ exposure!)

 

LOL, That could be or maybe it just seems that way with this post, as so many have a problem with it. Kinda messes up the point of the post - to have a good time reminiscing about your most memorable finds. So, let's move on and have fun.

 

I have found a 1916d 10c mer and a 1932d QT in change. This was back about 1957-1962. But what got me started collecting. Was when I was Boy Scout on a camping trip and found many coins in a creek, about 1955. 1875s 20c (1), Stone Mountain 1925 50c (15-20), IH cents, Shield Nickles, "V" nickles, other halves, Qtrs, and cents. That was fun. -O)

 

I agree.

 

My most memorable find was how much my son and I enjoyed it doing his cents and nickels.

 

My most valuable find is an MS65 1999 Wide A M.

 

Most memorable, ever?

Easy, when I was in a kid I found a 1922 (Plain) Lincoln cent.

I had to use it to buy my father a birthday gift, prior to finding out what it was worth.

I still miss it.

#2: Found a 1903 O Morgan $ in change, thought that it was worth a fortune, and then found out that the Federal Reserve had just (6 months prior) released them into circulation. Went from hundreds to a couple of $'s in value in an instant.

#3: I was sitting next to a friend when he was looking thru a girls change (at lunch) and found a 1909 S VDB. But, this was in the early 1960's, say about 1963.

#4: Had, but eventually lost track of about a 1/2 roll of '09 VDB's. all found in change.

My most amazing find was a 1924-d cent. I once started a thread about how I found it and posted pix (short story: for about 25 years I stopped collecting, but I did throw my wheaties in a jar. This particular jar came along to our new house when we moved about 10 years ago, and was sitting in our basement ever since then. This year I went through the jar and found it. I.e., I saved it without even knowing what it was at some point between 10 and 25 years ago, but didn't "discover" it till this year.)

When I was a kid, in the early 1960's, I got an Indian Head in change -- but I didn't collect back then, so while I did marvel at it for a while, and might have even saved it for a day or two, I have no recollection what I ended up doing with it.

My most memorable find was a 1932-d quarter found in change back in the mid 60's. It grades out around VG and has been since been replaced by a higher graded on in my quarter set. Since I started collecting in the early 60's I have found lots of neat stuff in circulation but I do not look that carefully now as my eyes are quite as sharp.

 

My most memorable,although not the most valuable monetarily,was a 1909 P Lincoln cent I found in change when I was a kid. I just thought it was neat to find a coin that old. I still have it by the way.

 

Actually, I forgot about one coin I found in circulation when I originally replied. The most memorable coin I have found was a 1969-D Roosie with a rather impressive looking planchet clip.

 

Once or twice a year I usually get a silver Washington Quarter or Roosevelt Dime or War Nickel in change. Lately, I have been getting Wheat Cents as well.

My most memorable find from circulation would be 25 Mercury Dimes in various condition of VF-AU. Someone had come into the hospital cafeteria and used them to pay for his or her meal. I gladly took them in as change when I paid for my meal.

Since my Mercury Dime set grade range is VF+ to EF, they fit in perfectly with my collection.

 

Most memorable? I'd say this Lincoln cent.
