1863 Indian cent: just a common circ, but wholesome and fun

    It is.

    The 1874 is also a slightly less common date, with a mintage of 790,000 pieces, making it a bit scarcer than the higher-mintage coins from the 1860s.

    Contemporary counterfeits can bring crazy prices. Still have this one.

    I guess with the dire coin shortage during the Civil War, certain shady entrepreneurs in the private sector came up with their own solutions!

    They're certainly interesting.

    Yes they are. I poked around when I first found out mine was fake, it's amazing how many there were in that era. I was thinking about submitting a few of my old coins to ANACS so I looked up whether mine was worth it, found out there were Type 1 and Type 2 dimes in 1861, starting looking to see which one mine was, and went - hey, wait a minute! If you've never seen this list, it's fun to browse them.
