1863 Indian cent: just a common circ, but wholesome and fun

This is a very common and cheap coin- particularly in lower circulated grades like this- but I like it. I'm fond of copper-nickel cents in general. Feel free to pile on with your own copper-nickel Indian cents or other Civil War era coins.

Here's another I sold recently. I like copper-nickel Indians and Flying Eagle cents with a touch of darker, contrasting toning like this. I think the alloy stood the test of time well.

I posted a Civil war half. Should have been a cent.

All CW era coins are OK here. Post your half, by all means.

Yep. They did pretty well in circulation, usually, but had a rough time in the ground. That certainly does look like a detector find. I dug lots of Indian cents over the years, but never found a copper-nickel Indian cent or Flying Eagle, myself. My dig buddies have, plenty of times.

I like the look of that 1858-SL Flying Eagle. There's that contrasting look I was going on about earlier.

This 1865 two-cent piece had an old cleaning at some point, but has retoned a bit. It was another recent inexpensive pickup. And of course is also another Civil War-era coin.

That contrasting makes for very good eye appeal to me also.

A different Civil War era coin - contemporary counterfeit. Probably posted it on here 3 times now, but I get a kick out of it. Sat in my album for 40 years before I realized that it's fake.

I would imagine that there’s one particular case where the fake- being a contemporary counterfeit- is worth just as much if not more than the Real McCoy would be!

Those are all fabulous coins, @ldhair
Yes I saw one years ago for sale for $65, and a real one in that condition is probably $15.
