Even if i was looking to complete a Morgan set in that grade and had endless money. I would wait for a better one.

Well then you’d be hoping something unknown came out of the woodwork because there’s not one for that day/mm

I wouldn't describe it as butt ugly. It has a mottled toning pattern, but you can see the great details under that mottled toning. It would have been very sweet had that coin picked up the old "album" toning that you often see and are attracted to for formerly archived silver coins. But I'm sure the details and strike in that coin must beat other 1893-S Morgans hands down. I'm not a Morgan dollar collector, but I do like viewing those that are DMPL, PL, or with interesting toning.

I agree. I have not seen this coin in person but the splotchy toning reveals itself clearly in the TrueView as well. It's about bragging rights or more likely registry scores.

So you seeing a picture knows better than PCGS, CAC, one of the best Morgan collectors of all time?

I think with a population of one, all you have to do is send it to cac and he would put his sticker on it.

You are the only one here that insists he knows better than anyone else.

I do have an opinion, just like PCGS and CAC do, and it's that I think there is more than that coin's *good looks* motivating the bidders.

Oh the irony in your post.

Not all opinions are equal but carry on.

Completely false. A population of 1 does not guarantee CAC at all.

Forums would be much better if people didn’t feel the need to chime in with extreme positions such as that.

Anyways I have no interest in the coin but can realize what it is. If you guys wanna carry on just saying whatever go for it I’m out

Completely False. Then we would be left with only PCGS fanboys.

I am definitely seeing something other than what you guys are seeing.

I am seeing perfect surfaces that will catch the light at all angles and light up that toning from behind, revealing wonderful overlays of red, orange, gold and light blue.

The photographed angle may be one of very few that emphasizes the dull front-lit nature of the toning. If you look at the TrueView you get a much better idea of its potential.

When I was a dealer, I sold an 1893-S dollar in AU-58 for five figure sum. Given that this one will sell for at least 50 times the price I got for that one, which a bright, lusterous bright coin, I’d rather have the one I sold for the price.

I really do appreciate the coin more after viewing those photos. Man, the details that show through are amazing. I think we all have our own tastes, likes, and dislikes. I'm not keen on the mottled nature of some of the gray toning, but I do like the subtle colored tones that show up in those photos you posted.

I've seen the coin in person. Was able to hold and examine it. While
the photos, any photos, even PCGS TrueView photos which I have not
seen, cannot capture the beauty of the coin. I'm not sure why it does
not do well in pictures. If I were the winning bidder I'd be thrilled. This
coin is a true treasure. My 2 cents worth.

Actually I think the GC images make it look better than the TrueView, which makes the toning in front of the portrait look like borderline environmental damage. I'll give it the benefit of the doubt, but who cares what I think anyway, relative to someone who can spend now $1.36 million on a coin.

I’ve seen a YouTube video of it. I think? The toning could be off putting? But still... A ms-67 1893 S Morgan :greedy:. WOW! Although I’d too, if I could? Spend 1.2 million elsewhere.

It certainly could be, but thats true of any toning. Even what would be considered the most beautiful toning some people would hate
