I found a very shiny state quarter. Is this worth holding on to? Seems a lot more refined than average quarters.
For the sake of the conversation...Denver makes much better quality coins than Philly and they can border on proof like conditions sometimes.
I just purchased a few state quarters. Tommy is correct, the Denver quarters are proof like in appearance. Far better than Philadelphia. The good news for me is they were only fifty cents each and I completed my folder.
I have several rolls of nice shiny State Quarters. D's hold up much better then P's. Your quarter is nice. No premium, but a nice example all the same. Save it if you want. I can't resist holding onto a UNC state quarter. I have gifted many to help kids fill their albums. But when push comes to shove, and I need the extra $$$ , I have no problem dumping them.
Didn’t know they could look this good ill take your word for it I've seen them before but mostly for zilincons.
It is very possible that this coin was struck by brand new dies. I recently bought a mint sewn bag of 2021 half dollars and everyone looks as shiny as a proof coin. My guess is they were all from new dies. Too bad they have bag marks.
You might want to give it a rinse in 100% acetone as you will now have a fingerprint on one side and a thumb the other. Leave it too long and the oils from your fingers will etch the prints into the surface of the coin never to be removed. NOT nail polish remover as that acetone has scent and other chemicals in it.
That does not look like a plated quarter, instead, the pic is showing a color reflection of something, maybe his hand…and @SVO_Seth …please wear some white cotton gloves or handle the coin by the edges at the least…finger oils will etch fingerprints. And…(as a matter of fact) collectable State quarters can still be found, just not frequently from circulation any more. Recently I found about 30 State quarters in Mint State, but they had been in a jar of coins for about 14 years…Spark
To me it looks plated. I put it on a white piece of paper and when I flip the coin over the silver flipped with the coin. If it was a reflection on the paper it would’ve stayed on the bottom. Thoughts?
Unless someone painstakingly hand plated the faces it is unlikely. It is why I asked for a picture of the edge. A plated coin would be immersed and you wouldn't be able to see the clad edge, the entire coin would look the same. As mentioned above, it s a nicely struck piece and well preserved.
