Is this MD on the date and mint mark, or something better. It seems so significant, I had to ask! Don't see one like this on Variety Vista!! http://varietyvista.com/01b LC Doubled Dies Vol 2/DDO 1969-S.htm
Looks like flat and shelf like MD to me. There is one similar to yours that sold on eBay for $2.39. Listed as MD. Some will say NAV. But there are those that collect MD coins. I would hold onto it though as a nice example and neat coin. https://www.ebay.com/itm/334108870754?hash=item4dca70c862:g:DBwAAOSwJ2hhCI04
Yes, MD…there maybe some elements of deterioration present but this looks a classic, but very pronounced MD to me…Spark
No value added here. Just a question and observation - @1stSgt22. Did you find that recently? I found a 1969-S cent just yesterday.
With the MM hand-punched into the die, when it shows the same "doubling" as the date it is almost always MD or DDD. Unlikely to obtain the same doubling with two separate processes, die creation and then MM punching.
I've had it for a long time. I once collected a roll of cents for each date/mint mark. At the time I wasn't looking for errors or varieties. Just started looking at them again.
The uneven edges of the date/mintmark are not likely to be found in machine doubling. I'll stick with die deterioration!
