I decided to give half dollars a go again today as the security truck pulled up as I was at the bank and dropped them off ( although I had to hang around for around 30 minutes while they transferred them from the truck ) not as eventful as I hoped but managed to find a 1964 , 1965 and 3 NIFC. Not bad for a box. My CU's armored car company said they had no more halves in stock due to coin shortage so couldn't order them for awhile.
I started picking up a box a week again. The boxes completely full of brand new halves have disappeared, at least at my CU. I agree, that box is pretty decent. I got about the same out-of-the-box I had last week. Picked one up yesterday and will go through it tonight. Wish me luck!
I know what you mean, most banks I ask say they don’t have any and rarely get them but luckily my local bank orders them regularly and even takes them back once I’ve ran through them ( I went to chase recently and they didn’t want to change up my half dollars for any other kind of denomination )
It wasn’t too bad but was hoping for a few older ones, 5 is better than none I suppose lol. The coin shortage has been a nightmare but I found smaller banks have been better for me than large ones recently
I haven't been able to get halves in bulk at the bank or credit union, all I have been getting is what comes over the counter - like this from last week - 11 halves in the whole credit union : But at least all eleven of the little darlings were silver.
Good luck with that, I hope you get more than I managed to on this one. I’ve had more luck with loomis rolls to be honest, today’s was HF string and son and it’s the second time I’ve had barely anything from these boxes
That’s better than going through an entire box and getting less results lol. I am now in the process of re rolling the coins by date before taking them back to the bank and it’s a ton of work. Whenever the tellers offer me ones over the counter they are normally newer so I’m really impressed by that haul
Is it possible that some of the banks are ordering half dollars because they can't get enough quarters?
The teller did say that she liked to have them to give as change if she didn’t have many other denominations so that could be the case. She also orders them for us if we request them along with an extra box every now and again
That is a possibility. Even though I can easily get the half dollars, my lady tells me she can't order other things, not even quarters. Might be something to that.
It has cycled through my area. First couldn't get quarters, then nickels, then halves. Now I'm ordering quarters again. Such a cluster.
