    Interesting! So what, indeed, is that “R”, after all? As mentioned above, I thought it was a “K”.

    An abbreviation for “Henricus Rex”, maybe?

    Well, it doesn't help the way the coin was struck or worn it has a smushed look to it. And as far as the H R, I never investigated it further. If it was Katherine, it would probably would have been harder to part with.
