So I do not have either but apparently you can view, buy or follow other coin collectors on these apps?

Anybody have any insight on this?

I'm on Instagram and yes you "follow" other accounts that you like (for me it's mostly coin people). Those that you follow show up on your feed (home screen) or you can go to their profile page. Some people just share their collection and some also sell. If you see something that you like, you can message the person and make a deal (via whatever method you agree to: PayPal, zelle, money order, etc).

Here is a writeup I did a few years ago:

Couldn't tell ya, I don't do any social media anymore
But yes, there are many groups and pages you can follow.

Ancient and Medieval Coins group on Facebook. There is some crossover with Cointalk folks. A venue for discussing coins and showing off new purchases.

There is also an Ancient and Medieval Coins Sales group, where dealers/members offer coins for sale.

I use Instagram for coins because of the attractive interface, and a lot of great short writeups to go along with the photos like CT. I have not purchased from there but it seems to be an active buy/sell/trade community.

A little shameless self promotion :)

Damn man! I guess i coulda just done a search. Well.... that write up pretty much answered most if not all of my questions! Thanks!

Do you guys use your real names? Not sure if that is a good idea. 1. I really dont want my "real life" people in my coin business. 2. I really don't want to plaster coins on the internets so sombody can search my address and rob my house.

Or am i over thinking it?

I only joined Instagram in the past month, but one of the best things about it, in my view so far, is easily the absence of fees when buying and selling.

I quit using any social media long ago, when it came out how they used your personal information.

    You're welcome!

I don't use Facebook for coins, so I can't comment about it. For Instagram, I don't use my name. The only time it is shared is when buying or selling and that is like eBay (when you buy or sell there, that is the only way you can find out someone's name).

I would recommend for everyone to have a separate account on all of them for coin stuff. They all have their uses and its very easy to make another account

Well, it's peer-to-peer trust based, like the BST is here. You either use a friends&family payment or somebody eats a fee.

But couple of people I know (one IRL and his friends) are finding it successful.

What exactly is friends and family payment? Is that an option on PP?

What about those other apps.... venmo...pioneer pay ect....?

    Depends..

Some of them base the fee on how you fund it... credit card payment has a fee, direct debit doesn't.

PayPal explicitly breaks into Friends&Family- no fee, but no recourse and is not to be used for buying things. Vs. Goods and Services which charges a fee but has some buyer protection too.

I will never have an account with any of them.
