Isle of Man: copper-nickel crown; Manx cat, 1970 150,000 mintage. Just a semi-random, fairly inexpensive coin I found in a World lot I got in. I just like the way the photos came out. (iPhone XR camera- no editing other than crop/resize/background.)
I had an orange manx growing up. His name was Hobbes. Best cat ever. Great coin btw and thanks for the memories
Nice one! The Manx crowns are generally very pleasant looking with surfaces pretty dificult to capture, good job. I have been thinking about getting some after acquiring this crown celebrating 300 years of Manx coinage
The camera in this iPhone is its one redeeming feature, in my opinion. Other than that, I miss my old Samsung/Android phone. Personally, I’m not a big fan of iOS and Apple, generally speaking. But I’m quite pleased with the camera. No, I can’t compete with the pros and their DSLRs and fancy equipment, but it’s nice knowing I can at least attain adequate coin photography most of the time now, and occasionally almost even good. And having something easily portable is important to me. A few years back, I did buy a nice professional quality setup with a Canon DSLR and all that, but it was too complicated for me, and not portable enough. So I sold it and have gone with the simpler option. When I need true professional quality photos for my better coins, I hire the pros to shoot ‘em for me.
A few more recent shots. White balance might be a smidge off on a few of them, but not too bad. Those flashy black-and-white proofs can be a little tricky. Definitely some trial and error here. By contrast, I find original grey circulated silver a joy to photograph, usually.
