I usually pass these up. Got tired of looking at nothing lol. Wish it was in better condition. Definitely my first DDO 1984.
Well good for you, I guess we’ll take your word on it. Clearer pictures wouldn’t hurt none if you want an opinion.
Looks good for DDO-001 check the reverse die markers because VV only has the early die stage listed http://varietyvista.com/01b LC Doubled Dies Vol 2/1984PDDO001.htm
So have I. I finally broke down and bought one. This one is actually double ear, chin, and beard. This is the only picture I have. EDIT : BTW, I gave $49.00 +S/H for mine. So AmberLarry, I'm thinking that since yours is so clearly doubled, that it would be worth about the same. Bear in mind, that I am neither a coin expert nor a coin appraiser, so take my opinion as just that, an opinion.
I found one in my wife's purse in 1984 when they were first publicized. The word was that some had been found in Jackson, Miss., which is not far from where we live. Anyway, I sent it to a certification service, PCI I think, back when PCI was a legitimate service. Back it came graded MS64 Red. Anyway, I kept it for years before deciding to part with it. I took it to a big summer ANA convention and no one was interested. I finally talked to an error dealer, and he told me to watch for bubbles in the copper coating, that it was a sign that it was developing a major problem. I used my loupe, saw the bubbles on the obverse, and decided it was time to let it go for sure. I offered it to some guys at SilverTowne, and they said they would give me $10 for it, which was a small fraction of its Greysheet value at the time ($200, maybe?). I got them up to $65, took the offer and never looked back. Be glad you're in it for 1c like I was.
