@potty dollar 1878 …is right, lots of split-plate doubling on both sides, and classic form of it on the mint mark. It also has DDD on the date and other areas. The copper plating has been worn off in several areas exposing the underlying zinc core. Not an error, definitely a spender. The only interest would be to determine if it were a CLAM…but it is not.
Split plate doubling is what it is, a form of NAV or no added value Doubling. Very common on zinc cents as are on the many other forms of NAV.
I don’t claim coining (pun intended) the acronym. I saw it here on CT a few years ago. I think it was in a graphic another member had posted.
