David Hall holder Morgans (pre-PCGS) - What will they grade today?

So I recently picked up a group of Morgan Dollars in old David Hall sealed flips. (Yes, the flips contain PVC but the coins are in "cointainers," which are non-PVC holders. In any case, I thought many of these had a potential to upgrade, so they're no longer in the old David Hall flips. He graded all these MS65. What do you grade them today? What do you think PCGS will grade them? I'm sending them in Express next week, so we will know soon. (And yes, I still have a couple still in the David Hall holders, that I plan on keeping that way).

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

    I like 2, 4, 5, and 7 at 65.

I think the rest have a really good chance at 66, and I wouldn't be surprised if 9 snagged a 67.

In hand, I think 1, 3, 6, and 9 are all MS67, and I have a dream that one may fetch MS68. (But I doubt it).

I see all as at least 65's and some better.

Pretty group! I wouldnt be surprised by a 67 or two, but they are harsh on grading for these years. I've seen several that should have been 66's or 67's that didn't pass 65 just because of the date/mint. These are nice enough that I hope that doesn't happen here.

I would begin with 3 and 9 to see what they get. I don't know how graders feel about die polishing marks (or whatever they're called).

I could see 3 getting it, but not 6 (from a single set of pictures, FWIW)

Nice coins:cigar: my only questions would they have held higher value being in what has become rare packaging/holders?

They bring some premium, but not a lot.

After the comments and re-examining them closely in-hand, I decided to only send in 7 of these express grading. (Due to the expense). I took out 4, 7, and 10 and will send those in cheaper with a regular service order, with the guess that they’ll probably not get better than a 65. IMO the seven I sent in all have a great chance at MS66 or better. Will post results in a couple weeks.

I think they are all 65/66 coins. I don’t see any that I expect will earn a 67 and 68 is a fantasy. These dates need to be really exceptional to get higher than that and I don’t think these are.

I think coin 3 is the only exception here with an outside shot at 67.

Good i always like to see some things left in an original holder! Retro will be cool even if those coins get stupid damage i think. It's like some po01 graded stuff. Maybe in the next life. But someone has to leave it for the next...

Will definitely be looking for the update! Would also like you to revisit when the other ones are back!

I think you will be happy with your results. Sometimes images can overemphasize marks. Your dealing with a high contrast image. A lot of those marks are a lot less severe in hand and appear that way because you can turn the coin and look at it from different angles. Plus, I know you know your coins and are a decent grader.

I can't wait to see your results.

For comparison...here's a scuffed up Morgan (Obv) I bought a while back and was pleasantly surprised it got an MS65 from PCGS. These are the best pictures I have.

I can see why it got a 65. First it's a CC and got the CC bump. It's also a GSA which also helped it. Secondly, the marks don't look too terrible. Now had it been a common date 79-S - 82-S it would have most likely gone 64 or possibly lower depending on the grading room that day.
