I'm not gonna ask if you collect pre-64 or modern or world coins or whatever. Although, you can mention that in your post if you want. Here it is, do you like toned coins or not??? I do, the reasons for me are it gives the coin eye appeal and personality.
I don't like all toned coins, just the pretty ones A well toned has, as you said, much more personality than a blast white or otherwise untoned example (though this is not to say that a bright white coin is without charm).
In general I don't like toned coins. However, some are really nice and I wouldn't mind having some. Especially the blue and purple ones.
Absolutely!! I guess it's the same with most collectors. I was just wondering, maybe I should have made a poll. When I figure out how maybe I will. :thumb:
I like toned coins...but not all toned coins. I think toning can add to the eye appeal and make the coin appear more original. However, many times the toning can also be ugly or damaging to coins...and in those cases I don't like it. So, I would say I like both toned and blast white coins.
I also have to add that it took a while for toned coins to grow on me. Seeing pictures of good toning online alone didn't attract me to them, but the first time I had a great example in hand, I couldn't resist any longer. Now I keep my eyes peeled for good examples.
Here is a toned coin example from my collection where I really think the toning, although darker, really accentuates the coin's beauty.
Nice Roosevelt! I like toning that adds character to the coin. But I also like blast white coins too.
nickels I like both, really. I like blast white (but as original as possible) coins (or red coins, for copper), and I also appreciate toned coins. Here's my latest purchase:
Well, the coins I collect very rarely occur in mint state, and I normally can't afford them when they do, so I'm sticking with toned. Coins which aren't in mint state can appear rather ugly and plain without toning.
Like the majority of the responses so far, I like coins that have exceptional eye appeal. Many rainbow toned coins have incredible eye appeal. However, there large majority of toned coins do not have this eye appeal and in some cases, toning can be downright ugly. While I can appreciated the originality of an ordinary toned coin, I really only love the toned coins that have increased eye appeal as a result of the toning. For example: :smile
Type of toning is per each collectors taste. Some like dark toning and some like wild rainbow type toning - I am somewhere in between, the more subtle type toning.
I Like them.. Some much more than others.. We all Talk about Silver Tone and Blast White.. But I have found that Copper gets some of the Best Rainbows and Blue / Purples /Reds... I might just be me.. All I can see are Pennies.. Pennies Pennies Pennies.....!!! I have looked at 4200 Coins in the Last 3 Days.. MY EYES!!! The Colors! I did Find this last week.. I wish I could get good Pictures of the Lincoln' Toned ones I have found.. After Boxes of Cents I have Started a Toned Lincoln Memorial Set.. Just The most colorful out of the Boxes!!
I'm a original looking type of coin person. To me a toned coin is like a dirty car. I guess even if dirt on a car could be made a certain way, there would be many people that liked that also. I just prefer coins that look the way they are supposed to look. I have no toned coins at all.
