Hi guys, I have a 1995 P Roosevelt Dime and noticed on the obverse right side that there are serrations near the edge of the rim. Is this also considered a collar clash? I normally see the serrations along the top of the rim when there is a collar clash.
I would think it's collar clash ‘Double rims’ and false rims arise in many circumstances (coinworld.com)
I say ....Possible hit from reeded edge . Where's @paddyman98 when you him .Sorry @JPD3 , that picture from Coin World looks nothing like the OP's coin here.
It is a collar clash and a rather extreme one. Typically with a collar clash the "gutter" around the edge of the die that forms the rim is what hits the edge of the collar. In the case of this coin the die was off enough that the field of the die hit the edge of the collar.
Thank you very much for your informed answer! I was confused as to whether this was in fact, a collar clash because I have only seen serrations on the top of the rim. I am very happy now and will keep this one in my album.
Keep a note with it with the details, as some are quite mild and others are stronger, like yours. They can also get more extreme on the rim like this
