Here is a nice little $10 spot I got lucky on today from the Live Heriatge Auction...could not pass this on up... Yes, I know it's not a NY note..they dont all have to be NY's right? RickieB
Nice. I like the curves of this 9 in the Fed seal. Also it seems like the SN is slightly shifted, with the A touching the C in AMERICA. What do you mean about them not all being NY notes? Is that the district you prefer to collect? or does that mean something else in terms of the notes numismatic value? scarcity?
Krispy... Yes, I collect by Fed District and New York was my choice several years ago. Thus, all the NY notes you may or may not have seen throughout those years. I picked NY for 2 reasons, one of the reasons was due to the large amount of notes produced for/by this Fed Bank so that I may have a chance to finish the collection.. I am finding that it is simply not so. You see Krispy, no matter what fed bank you choose, what Series you choose, or any other oddity you may select to collect by, there will always be some notes that are more difficult to locate than others. If you set a Grade limitation on this as well it can become near impossible, or so it may seem at times. You will come to the realization that your search is one that is on going and consumes vast amounts of your time, The obsession is truly addictive. Your personality changes, a sense of pride overwhelms you when you fill that long empty spot....needless to say that the $$$$ you spend is but a small fortune depending on what you are after. So I saw your post on the first 2 notes you have purchased for your collection. Bravo, the $5 Silver Certs are a really nice note with several varieties and will make an excellent set! The Stars is where these get really hard and a little expensive..way to go, I wish you success in your venture. The Book you picked up is a real treasure, keep it preserved and in good order, it will not get any cheaper either. Regards, RickieB
Another beauty Rickie, congrats. I was watching the live auction last night on my P.C. The money seemed to be flowing like water.
Pennywise... Indeed it seems that way...session # 3 yesterday afternoon was the majority of the small size..I had to let a few go as the prices were just out of sight..I have 2 Large Size I am watching today, (Session 5) and need 1 to complete another Series of Notes I have...who knows, today may be the day! Good luck to you on your bids.. RickieB
Thanks RickieB, I can definitely see/feel the obsession within this.and I really like how you speak about currency. That gets me fired up too! I can also see the price hurdles I could be facing going forward. I'm trying to figure out where my parameters are in terms of the grades, (quality of notes), eye-appeal and such will converge and determine the level of my collecting ability. For now I cannot say, and while aware of the financial commitment, I'm trying to look the other way while I learn about all the nuances of paper and series so that I don't let cost become an insurmountable factor because there sure are some beauties out there.
