First off I have basically no idea what I am doing collecting colonial coins. All these Contemporary counterfeits..non regal.... on and on and on. But... I'm fascinated. It's also giving me a break from some of the world stuff that I've been buried in for months. I really have avoided US stuff lately because the market is so UP. However these colonials smacked me in the mouth.

So anyhow... I want to display a few nice Great Britain Half pennys with my US colonial collection. So why not the 1775 that is so popular? Highly faked. Widely circulated in the colonies. Tons of collectable contemporary counterfeits that I really don't understand. To make matters worse Whittman just shipped me the wrong book. Was supposed to be Bowers Encyclopedia of Colonial Coins...they sent continental currency encyclopedia. So....bummer there. Even came home early to read it.

So on to my coin. 1775 Great Britain Half Penny
7.09g and very thin. Pretty sure its a contemporary counterfeit.... just not sure if its anything worth keeping.

I would really like a good contemporary counterfeit and a genuine. I'm just lost so far trying to figure out what I am looking at.

Opinions , comments, and suggestions very welcome. 20210809_183655.jpg 20210809_183637.jpg

Genuine examples are 10g. Contemporary counterfeits tend to be much lighter and thinner. Thats what my research indicates anyhow. But I don't know enough .... I'm out of my league here. Just wait til I get my book though!!!!
This coin actually has great eye appeal in hand. Its actually redish brown.
