As a few might know (one exactly) I've been waiting on an auction to end.. and it did... price shot right up to near double what I was willing to pay in the last few minutes. Well the seller knew I was after that particular coin (had asked for extra pics it was a real nice PF64 merc) and when it sold I got a msg from the dealer saying sorry you lost that but would this interest you for a 50 as a consolation prize.... I like my new consolation prize... not a proof but it is now the nicest Merc I own...
It's a pretty Merc. Say, you look a tiny bit like Stephen King (at least from the eyes up), in your new avatar.
I knew his brother Dave for years (he was actualy tax clerk for my town for a few years) Let me only note that "David King" was adopted, yet was regularly mistaken for his brother in public... We shared a major dislike for most of his brothers writing (the 2 exceptions being "pet cemetary" and "salems lot") I actualy miss that man we would sit and talk doodoo about his brothers books for hours lol... decided I had to add this.. Stephen never had hair like mine lol... (is another avatar i use and you thought the new one was scary lol)
I didn’t say anything about your avatar being scary. I think someone else did. I just made that mention of the upper half of your face vaguely resembling Stephen King’s, a tiny bit, in the masked version. Might’ve just been the glasses.
I think it was. LOL. Cheech can be rather colorful at times. Well, someone with a name like @Fullbands must be a Merc enthusiast, so if your Merc got approval from that direction, it sounds like a vote of confidence to me!
I agree with you. I enjoyed Pet Cemetery, Salem’s Lot and most especially The Shinning which I thought was a minor masterpiece. The trouble with many of Steven King’s later works has been that they are too long. He’s not had enough plot to take up 500 pages.
Am surprised no one has corrected "Merc" to Winged Liberty...usually the case. I had honestly never heard of Winged Liberty until this forum...always been Mercury/"Merc"...although have now understood that it never was intended or designed as (for) the Mercury of mythology concept, but indeed a Liberty (head) with wings...something like that. Am sure there's more to the story.
“Winged Liberty” = 2 words, 13 letters, 7 syllables. “Mercury” = 1 word, 7 letters, 3 syllables. “Merc” = 1 word (kinda), 4 letters, 1 syllable. Never underestimate the tendency of Americans to boil everything down to the shortest words possible. And that’s probably why the technically-incorrect nickname stuck. Of course, in the present time, with the Internet and text messaging being what they are, I’m surprised it’s not been further downsized to “WLD” ... (Or “MD”, even, but then one risks confusion with “machine doubling” and “metal detecting”.)
Blame the media. They are the ones that perpetuate these mislabeled things. What about the Buffalo nickel. Isn't it actually an Indian Head nickel? But, then it would be confused with an Indian Head penny (cent).
Yeah. Americans. They just got to put their own touch on everything. But I get it. Their Mercury dimes to me
Well living in Buffalo NY. We don’t call them Bisons. Everything’s a Buffalo. Well if I look hard enough. I might find a politically person. Bison or Indian Head in the suburbs
