2012 US Philadelphia Mint Set - Packaging Error

I purchased 58 mint and proof sets from a friend. As I was going through them, I found a 2012 mint set with a packaging error. At first, I thought that two coins were missing from the set. After closer inspection, I found that the Arcadia quarter was hanging out with the Sacagawea dollar and the Hawaii quarter was chit chatting with the Denali quarter. I wonder how this mistake got through QC at the Philadelphia mint. Do you think that the set has any up value? I provided a few pictures for your viewing pleasure.

Possibly,put it up for auction on the bay and watch the money fly in im sure some people collect these manufacturing errors.

 

Realistically worthless, but yeah, some people will collect anything.

Or you can write 'em a nasty letter and say you want your 50c back.

 

The 2012 mint set is worth at least $50; probably not a premium above that due to the packaging issue though.

 

It’s not considered a mint error. It’s called a packaging error. Worth a little extra to a collector of sorts but I’d just keep it for the novelty of it.

Yep packaging error, and they aren't packaged at Philadelphia. They used to do all the packaging at San Francisco, not sure if they still do or if they have farmed it out to a contractor. But the coins get shipped to the packaging location and the sets assembled there.

I think proofs are still assembled in San Francisco, too much chance of damage in shipping otherwise.
