This thread is for everyone. I posted it here but of course the USA is part of the world. I have a liking for gold pieces that are a little different from the usual sovereigns, eagles etc. I will start it off with an Austrian 1892 dual denomination 8 Florin/20 Francs
What's unusual about this, the denomination, some people wouldn't think we had $2.50 gold coins and others 100+ years ago as money.
@yakpoo I stand corrected...above is an example of a lower purity ballerina that you must have been describing in my thread
Ha...I wish! ...but someone has it. https://www.macleans.ca/economy/money-economy/the-saga-of-canadas-stolen-million-dollar-coin/
Here are a couple of different Uncirculated Jane Pierce First Spouse coins I ordered from the Mint on the first day of release. They both have identical "raised" marks across the fields. I would think that dies are very hard and indestructible, but I've read where a simple wipe of a cloth can cause such damage. I was going to send these coins back, but kept them instead...because I liked the example and surprised they slipped past the Mint's quality control folks.
Thanks for the posts, some truly amazing pieces. Here is a Canadian 100 Dollar commemorative, .917 gold and a mintage of 250,000 only struck as proofs
