Just a quick question regarding a roll of quarters I got at the bank that has the reverse of 2021 Washington Crossing the Delaware showing at both ends of the roll..

Is this any "more cool" than if it had heads on one side and tails on the other?

    and/or

Could that indicate that the entire roll might not be all 2021 "Delaware Quarters" and it's a mix?

I wasn't looking for a roll of quarters to keep, I got them because i need to spend them but if it's any cooler having the reverse on both ends, maybe I'll keep it and get another roll to spend :)

    Thx in advance!!

Forgive me, because I do not keep up to date with most modern issues. Is there something special about the 2021 Crossing the Delaware coins?

It's one and done BUT the mint will most likely make billions of them.

I don't know how "special" they are, but a few things make them different. 1. They moved the date back to the obverse. First time on quarters since 1999.(?). 2. they went back to the original Geo. Washington on the obv. not the spaghetti hair one. and lastly, They were not sold in bags or rolls through the mint, which I found odd.
I haven't seen the final mintage numbers yet.

I was thinking of asking this in a dedicated thread, but this one seems appropriate. I rather like that the mint went back to the old design obverse. Is this design a one year only issue?

I guess I could have left the part about them being Delaware Quarters out because that wasn't the important part of the question... it was really that a) they were brand shiny new and 2) they had the reverse on both ends, so it could have been any coin with the interesting reverse like the Westward nickels, National Parks Quarters or the 150th Lincoln Penny etc :)

I think your chances are way better than even it's a whole roll of them. We've come across boxes of rolls of the same coin. Sock it away if you think it's anything special, that's what we do.

Usually you can't tell what's in a roll unless you see the whole box of quarters. I've gotten some coin boxes you think they are all new until i saw a few rolls with other coins. Then i opened a few rolls - they were "mostly" new. These armor truck companies don't cater to coin collectors. For a time i thought Loomis - armor truck companies sprinkle new coin shipments with used coins to keep people from selling them. But maybe that was in my area.

well, what I did, and you can do whatever makes you happy, but I opened my rolls and went through them, some of the quarters were just of low quality dinged, stained, ugly,
I did save up a tube of 40 of them, but only of the best quality coins from 10 rolls which was roughly 4 coins per roll, and still I don't think any of them qualify for higher than MS67 so If I happen across any more rolls I'll be looking for better than what I have and switch out with them.

Mostly it's for something to do though, so I didn't save coins that are low MS which would be pointless. I also don't save much new coin to begin with but decided to do it on this one design since I had 10 rolls to go through and noticed a whole lot of them were just poor quality out of the roll.
It does technically continue the washington quarter series from 1998 though, same way a bicentennial is part of it. same obverse design, although they did modify the hair details. I wonder if my washington quarter album ends in 1998 or has space for others after...... shows you how long it's been since I opened it!

as far as the roll goes, it's a coin toss (har har har) on which side will face on the ends of rolls. on that coin it makes no difference, you can tell by the date it's a 2021 on the obverse, and you can tell by the design on the reverse it's a 2021. it's nothing special which one is facing out, but some people would prefer the date (when all coins share the same reverse from different years) on at least one end, so you can easily tell what's in it. reverse out on both ends mmight become a problem down the line if they continue the design and there are many years with the same reverse though.

I don't trust the coin rolls completely though, the armored carriers are doing the rolling and distribution and they just don't care if some circulated get in there with the new coin the way the fed reserve bank cared, all they care is that the inventory stays correct. it's very likely a solid roll of BU 2021 quarters, but the possibility exists there's some older circulated in there too.

Yes. This is a 1 year design only. Next year starts the notable women quarters I think. Not sure about where the date or which Washington will be on the front.

Put your socks away and open the roll. It would probably take three generations of heirs for the roll to increase in value. My opinion only, thanks for the post.

Everyone I talk to likes the reverse but the mint will make over a billion of them. They only have one year as the design is changing in 2022. That’s a shame. The design is so well liked it will be saved by millions. If I had a roll of them, I’d keep it. After all not only costs $10.00 but I’ll not pay the higher mint fees to get a roll.

The design is the fall back design it will appear again when they aren't doing series designs on the reverses.

Crossing the Delaware is a nice design but I think it falls under the commemorative rule. We've been so immune to quarter changes for over twenty years.

I think the old rule (1800s) is that quarters and higher denominations must use a eagle reverse and commemoratives can be used no more than one year. So if the design changes every year, then the commemorative rule is in effect. So, the Delaware Crossing can't be used any other year.

Anyone every heard of this rule or what it says. I think someone wrote about it when the state quarters came out or when Franklin halves came around. To make Franklin halves legal they had to place a small eagle to the right of the Liberty bell. Tell me if I'm right/wrong ??? thanks Snowman

yeah, I suppose Washington Crossing the Delaware is a single year design...

Public Law 110-456 America The Beautiful National Parks Quarters.

    (8) Designs after end of program.--Upon the completion of
the coin program under this subsection, the design on--
``(A) the obverse of the quarter dollar shall revert
to the same design containing an image of President
Washington in effect for the quarter dollar before the
institution of the 50-State quarter dollar program; and
``(B) notwithstanding the fourth sentence of
subsection (d)(1), the reverse of the quarter dollar
shall contain an image of General Washington crossing
the Delaware River prior to the Battle of Trenton.

Public Law 116-330 PROMINENT AMERICAN WOMEN (this also includes: "ISSUANCE OF REDESIGNED CIRCULATING COINS EMBLEMATIC OF THE UNITED STATES SEMIQUINCENTENNIAL" for 2026

DESIGNS AFTER END OF THE PROGRAM.—Beginning in 2027, any coin redesigned under this subsection shall revert to the immediately previous designs, with the exception of the quarter dollar and the half dollar, which shall bear designs in accordance with subsection (z).
‘‘(z) REDESIGN AND ISSUANCE OF QUARTER DOLLARS AND HALF DOLLARS EMBLEMATIC OF SPORTS PLAYED BY AMERICAN YOUTH.— ‘‘(1) REDESIGN OF QUARTER DOLLARS BEGINNING IN 2027.— ‘‘(A) IN GENERAL.—Effective beginning January 1, 2027, notwithstanding the fourth sentence of subsection (d)(1) and subsection (d)(2), the Secretary shall issue quarter dollars that have designs on the reverse selected in accordance with this subsection which are emblematic of sports played by American youth.
    (5) PERIOD OF ISSUANCE.— ‘‘(A) IN GENERAL.—The program established under this subsection shall continue in effect until the end of 2030.

‘(8) DESIGNS AFTER END OF PROGRAM.—Upon the completion or termination of the coin program under this subsection, the designs on the quarter dollar and half dollar shall be as follows: ‘‘(A) QUARTER DOLLAR.— ‘‘(i) OBVERSE.—The obverse of the quarter dollar shall bear a design containing a likeness of George Washington.
‘‘(ii) REVERSE.—The reverse of the quarter dollar shall be of a design selected by the Secretary after consultation with the Commission of Fine Arts and review by the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee. ‘
‘(B) HALF DOLLAR.— ‘‘(i) OBVERSE.—The obverse of the half dollar shall bear a design containing a likeness of John Kennedy. ‘‘(ii) REVERSE.—The reverse of the half dollar shall be of a design selected by the Secretary after consultation with the Commission of Fine Arts and review by the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee.’’.

So this goes through 2030. In 2031 they have to come up with something else. for the reverse.
in 2031, they are continuing the change of the reverse of the Kennedy half dollar.

Since I was going through all this, I figured the info might be interesting to someone else. I suppose they could revert to the Washington Crossing again if they have no design lined up, the legislation doesn't exclude it ever being used again but it's not indicated to do it ever again either.

and this one year Washington crossing the delaware is going to be like the bicentennial really, The bicentennial was struck for 2 years. and Between P and D, were like 1.6 billion or so, around 800 million each.
The mint is currently at 1.335 billion 2021s from both mints, with Tuskeegee being 464.4 M from both mints. Which puts WCD around 900 million currently.... could expect there to be still around 500 million made still before the end of the year, 1.4 billion in total. Tuskeegee isn't that rare either. 2012 Chaco Culture P + D were both 22 million minted, 2012 Acadia P was 21,606,000 and super low mintages since probably before 1960 when San Fran was striking some coins for circulation.

I had no idea they were going to start messing around with the half dollars also after the semiquincentennial.......

    Coinage act of 1792
The coins were to contain the following markings:

    • One side was to have an impression emblematic of liberty, with the inscription "Liberty", and the year of the coinage.
    • The reverse side of each of the gold and silver coins was to have the figure or representation of an eagle with the inscription "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA."
    • The reverse of the copper coins was to have an inscription expressing the denomination.
silver or gold is no longer for circulation but in many cases this still holds to tradition on silver and gold products still produced by the mint, the only ones that don't comply are the S silver proof dime and these circulating commemorative quarters also in silver. the quarter complied as it was a silver design before becoming clad.
the kennedy half was silver when it started, so it has an eagle. now that it's clad, it could have been changed after 1998 once it hit 25 years.

The dime as far as I can tell, complied until 1837 and for some reason the eagle was dropped from the reverse and never returned, there must be a reason for that somewhere..... it could be just that on such a small coin the eagle didn't look good so they stopped doing it.

you aren't wrong, but a bit off on the reason for the eagle. if it contained silver or gold it was supposed to have an eagle on it. not sure why the dime changed in 1837 though... this is a puzzle to me. LOL
