One of my great grandsons will be 9 years old in a few days. He lives about 3 hours from us. Whenever he is here we get absorbed in coins. I have 21 great grandchildren and he is the one with the most interest. He especially likes foreign coins. The photo below is a group I will send him for his birthday. These coins are in the original 2X2's that I put them in back in the 50's. Some may remember when they had the corners nipped off. This made it easier to put them in the pages for 2X2's. So, these are from my early collecting days.

Nice. Let's hope he keeps up the family tradition of a collector.

    Nice going, @Inspector43.

In my experience, it would help if you also got him some cent rolls with some wheat cents mixed in. That's how my grandfather got me hooked on collecting at the age of 5.

Consider starting a worldwide birthyear set for him.
Plenty of 2012 coins that won't bust the wallet.

For What It Is Worth - each of my Great Grandkids has coins similar to the list below. I spent most of last year putting these sets together, 21 of them. And, I have hundreds of Wheat, V, B & J nickels, Barber, Mercury, and Roosevelt Silver, etc. When ever they visit I let them pick a few. Plus, I have hundreds of Indian Head pennies. But I do plan to include some of this and that.

Great idea. Might think of that. But, I am hardcore and bullheaded. I hate to buy coins.

I might add, he spent the weekend with us and never once looked at his cell phone. Coins and riding GG's horse.

Actually, several of them have spent weekends with us and we didn't even realize that they had cell phones. We had 4 of them with us a while back. The 13 year old great granddaughter never took hers out one time. She, also was busy with the coin collection. Another very interested youngster.

It's wonderful that your grandson, and other great-grandchildren, have an interest in coins, but it's even more significant that you are nurturing that interest. Kudos to you! May you have many more happy hours with your great-grandchildren and the coins.
