That's right UGLIEST!!! Prove me wrong lol... here are the sellers pics... and lets also say I got her for less then 1/2 list so am happy even if she is ugly lol...
While I agree that is and ugly quarter... Only 1 side of it is ugly the SB the front is horrible and the reverse at best a poor ripoff of the Ike.. Nope gotta stick with the SB the ugliest coin ever made by the US lol
I say the reverse is nice but the Obverse is Ugly for sure . That's just how the women looked in the day, I guess . Hate to live back then .
Yea, why is the Eagle landing on the moon? That's the name of the Capsule or whatever they called it .The Moon Lander wasn't it ?
Gasparro wanted to use his 1969 design for the ANA medal for the new dollar. Lucky for us we got the PC dollar instead, ho-boy.
Ok that is sweet I could never call that an ugly coin... was this suggested in place of the SB or the Ikes? in either case some idiot made the wrong choice lol...
The medal's obverse was what he originally proposed for the obverse of Ike's replacement. IMO, and in retrospect, that design never had a snowball chance. They were trying to get the Equal Rights Amendment ratified and Susie on a coin was good advertising to that end. Or would have been had the public actually used it.
One of the few places I've ever seen them used is here in New Hampshire at the highway "rest stops" the change machines only give susies and all the vending machines accept them. (and yes i think i've looked though 90% of them over the years for an 81s type 2 with no luck not to mention they all beat to hell lol...
That’s a gorgeous Susie, and while the design is not particularly inspired (I’m mostly noting the recycled and reduced reverse from the Ike dollars- they could’ve been more creative), I think it is far from ugly. OK, so maybe Susan B. Anthony wasn’t a beauty queen. Since when is that a prerequisite of female greatness, let alone greatness in general, right? Look at Queen Victoria and Elizabeth II as they aged gracefully on British coins. Victoria started out as a young beauty in the 1840s and aged into a somber looking, veiled old widow on many of her final coins of 1901. I’ve heard some people say snide things about the present queen’s new portraits. C’mon, she’s 95 years old now and has ruled for nearly 70 of those years. The longest reign in British history and a true golden age, better even than those of her predecessors. I’m an American, but God bless the Queen. And Susan B. Anthony, who deserves her immortality.
That reverse was originally used (in larger format) on the back of the earlier (1971-78) Eisenhower dollars, as you may have noticed. When the Ikes made their debut in 1971, America was still rightly proud of having landed the Apollo astronauts on the moon in 1969. So it’s a great design. But by 1979, when the smaller SBA dollars were launched, I think they should have had a fresh reverse design, for originality’s sake. I’m not a fan of recycled coin designs, even when it was a great design the first time around. Hey, come up with something new. So the Susan B. Anthony design was an act of political correctness (and sure, why not?), and also a tiny bit lazy (recycled reverse, but maybe that was cost effective). But I don’t think they get the respect they deserve. (Even though the alternate flowing hair Gasparro design is quite lovely.)
I went off on my tangents and forgot to GTG on the coin in the OP as instructed. I say at least NGC PR69 UCAM, If not 70. Nice frost.
Agreed; Liberty there is a bit androgynous, if not even a bit masculine looking, but I still like the types.
