Nice toned proof Rosie

I picked a 1961 proof set in a capital holder today. I don’t collect proof sets at all but the dime in their is fantastically toned. It looks darker in the picture than in hand. Really bright blue in person. For $22 I couldn’t pass it up. I’ve already taken the dime out and plan to replace it with an average proof ‘61 example.

As I don’t really collect toned proofs, any tips on how to get it to stay this way? I’ve put it in a tightly sealed 2x2. Any other suggestions?

I'll admit it is a pretty coin, but what do you do with a toned coin? Most of the collectors admit that they are pretty coins, but does it really help the value as compared to other 1961 Silver coin?

 

The best value is what the owner considers it to be. Some coins do appreciate more when toned, but for the most part, it is simply how much the owner cares for it. And keep in mind, one has to be wary of artificially toned coins.

 

I've found that if you store 2x2 flips in a Dansco Album 7000 with the protective slipcover, you have a good chance of preserving your coin for a good while. Keep in mind the protective slipcover should be replaced about every 10 years or so.
