Great pick up! I don't focus on the modern commems, but I had to get one of these, as I think it is one of the most beautiful and detailed the US has ever minted. I haven't imaged mine yet, but will one day.

    Enjoy it!

This is one of a few that IMO are beautiful. I just wish the US Mint had more say in providing the images that grace our current US Coinage. We're stuck with that stodgy, old stuff mandated by a stodgy, old Congress. (Both chambers). :yuck:

Designed by Tiffany & Co. One of my favorite designs. I have the two piece set, as well as NGC and PCGS Proofs and Uncs. I also have the 2007 Dolley Madison spouse gold coin.

I think this design would be perfect on a circulating dollar coin.

But the U.S. already issued a Bust Dollar once before ... :woot::);):troll:

I thought it was more the mint giving in to contests of citizen-artist's renderings for various coins, rather than from/by their own artist-designers. No slight intended...many citizen-artists are good and there have been a few fine designs from them over the years...but now that everyone has a "special" cause, a platform, a "deserving" person/event in a diversified history, etc., we're letting down on quality for quantity to (try and) satisfy everyone (impossible).

I agree, a fine looking lady and coin. I have her in my collection, both PF and MS. Also a fan of her snack cakes.

I don't collect modern commemoratives, but my first look at your coin had me wondering why the designer left most of Dolly's left side of her head off. Doesn't look right to me.

My opinion is that this was and is the most artistic and tasteful and historically accurate and balanced First Lady pieces ever minted.
I am somewhat prejudiced, because her biography and contributions to our country and history is over the top and a model for all First Ladies that followed. She should have been the first woman President, and would have been if God had been a Godess.

    So there!!
