    Hi:

Can anyone tell me what determines a "Heavy Motto" on a 1934 Washington quarter. It's easy for me to tell the light mottos, but what makes the heavy motto different from a regular 1934 issue?

I'd like to be able to sell some light motto/heavy motto pairs on ebay but don't want to misrepresent a coin as being heavy motto if it really isn't.

There are actually three different mottos, light, medium and heavy.

    The differrence?

Look at it, if you can see the motto clearly, the odds are it is a heavy motto.

The light blends in with the background, ie field.

If I remember correctly, the Heavy Motto's "W" will have a center point that rises above the rest. I think that might be the easiest indicator.

    Thanks also.
I was aware of the varieties but never investigated the differences.
I took a quick look at mine and ... don't know.
But now I'll invest the time to figure it out.

    kanga:
If the motto looks clear, then it is the heavy motto

If it looks faint, then the lite motto.

Then I'm heavy (and the quarter is too) ;)
