Ok, folks after trying on my own to figure it out, I got some advice here that told me to use tissue paper to mute the flash to get pics without the big ball of light on them and all I can say is "Thanks for the advice diocletian!!!" and "WOW! It really works!" Here's a GSA Morgan. P.S.- I am absolutely lousy at grading Morgans. Anyone care to give me a little help with this one?
Good pics Mike. I agree with Jello looks like a 63 to me. Btw it's a VAM 3 (No premium) but a nice titled mint mark.
Nice coin, and really nice pictures. I am looking for a GSA Peace Dollar myself. I agree with the previous posters, I see a MS-62 or MS-63. The excessive bag marks on the obverse are a shame, considering the relatively clean reverse. Is that a die crack above 'UNITED' on the reverse?
No idea on grade but the pictures are great for sure! I was just doing some more practice this morning, myself. I'll have some to share in a new thread once they finish uploading
Well, I will say that the pictures put a HUGE spotlight on every fault that this coin seems to have, but I'd rather that than the opposite. The coin looks better in hand than the pics, but I have to say that every mark you see is actually on the coin, so I'll take whatever criticism the coin deserves.
Yep there's a crack running through UNITED and into the wing, there's also a crack coming of the E on the obverse.
Ignore your Avatar. I LIKE "Special" newly revealed features on coins & Photos help me see them. Like you, I'm working towards getting a simple photo system that lets me see things at my leisure as they really are...or can be found with timely closer examination. One of my "1st successful coin pictures" taken today was an attempted on this nickel. I never really looked at nickels much since they seemed to never know what to make them out of or where to place the mint marks and were best used to get a pack of baseball cards and a piece of chewing gum, back when. Then today decided to throw one under my soup can system and "look" at it up close. This one grabbed me because it's a '64 pulled from my pocket and I just wanted to look at the D MM. I'ld forgotten they placed them by the rim on occasion. So be careful what you photo dd: it just might be theredd:. It just might be there.
