Hello, I came across this 2020 D Weir Farm Quarter that looks to have some damage on the reverse? The Obverse looks fine. Is this Environmental Damage?
It's toning. Some people love it.....some people consider it damage. Probably an environmental cause. I rather like it myself. I don't recall ever seeing it on such a new coin, but I'm not an expert on it. Search other threads about toning. It can be done artificially.
Cool toning. Possibly a blowtorch, oven or other heat source? Probably not environmental if it’s just a year old!
sadly it looks like artificial toning, toning is one of those things that it only makes a difference if the coin is very old and it has natural toning
I tested some edited out on some 1970s pennies once to see what people do to people and I cleaned then then I baked then and they looked really nice and sleezythat people do that ! I know it happened to a bunch a wheat pennies my bf bought bc they don't stay that way it it's fake and I see chunks coming off 2.
Something in the immediate environment of the coin caused the toning, and it could be either natural or artificial. While most forms of natural toning take a while to develop on a coin, it really does come down to what the coin is subjected to and in this case, that is apparently unknown or undisclosed.
Nice colorful toning but unfortunately it’s not natural. It’s artificial toning, maybe a little Vaseline and a heat source.
