I made it back to the farm and did some more detecting in the front yard of the farmhouse. Below are the results from the last few days. I did much better on this trip than on the first trip, when my only notable find was a 1943 P war nickel.

#1: 1897 Indian Head cent - It was a solid "18" signal on the Vanquish 440 and about 4-6" down. This is my first IHC and first 1800s coin found detecting.

#2: 1907 P Barber dime - Very bouncy signal, probably because it was slightly on edge. This is my first Barber dime found detecting, and I think it is in pretty good condition considering that it has been in the ground for +/- 100 years.

I will be going back to the farm sometime in August, so more to come.

Makes me picture someone cracking a roll of brand-new 1907 dimes into an old-time cash register...

The dime didn't see much use before it was lost.

That Barber is really nice for having been in the ground. Good finds. Good luck in future searches.

    Tip:

Bring a small pill bottle filled with water with you on your hunt.

I found that if you put the coin directly into the water to keep it wet the dirt will come off more easily and will look better.
