I have several questions about this coin I recently picked up. Looking forward to your thoughts.

1/ Is it real? It was cheap enough I thought it worth the chance.
2/ If so, is this a Double Die on the Obverse?
3/ And if so again, what does that mean?

From my very brief research, I gather somewhat that DD are not uncommon on these pieces. Sorry for the mediocre pictures. I'm still trying to figure out how to light my Leuchturm microscope. Any advice on that is very welcome. Onward! JoJo

I have no experience with these but I think the date looks far newer than the rest of the coins surface. JMO

Thanks for taking the time to look and reply. To me, AMERICA looks to have something but I'll admit I don't know much, if anything, about these things. Trying to learn. Either way I'm good to go as it fills a hole in my modest Intercept Album Type Set!

    Commonly called Longacre Doubling.

These are common on Indian Head cents.

The reason for the strangeness is because of the tool used to engrave the letters.

I can't remember the exact reasoning, I remember reading about these many, many years ago.
