My grandson was out to the farm this weekend (first since covid) he brought some of his finds for us to go thru. He found this one in a roll. His first like it, so he was pretty stoked. He wanted me to share with "the pro's of coin talk". Hope to get some responses to show him .Thanks in advance "PRO'S".
Based on the wear pattern and the weight, I suspect this was probably ground down with a mechanical grinder, rather than naturally worn. Still, it is unusual and I'm glad he's excited for it!
Thank you, not quite sure on the weight, I am trying to find my weights to recalibrate, It seems it might be of by a quarter gram. You can see some nice finger prints on the reverse side too.
But with natural wear afterward, right? The wear pattern is weird, but the texture looks like normal circulation to me...?
I thank you for your thoughts, I did re -weigh and it was around 2.50g. I will take to work and weigh it on our gold scale there and will get a definite weight for everyone.
There really is no need to get an accurate weight. As stated it is just a worn down Copper Cent. It will weigh less than the official weight of 3.11 grams.
It's clear as a bell it's a 1909 VDBS! (JK) Possibly buffed but if normal wear, again the most worn cent I have ever seen also.
Fun find and keeper for sure. A great conversational piece and hours of entertainment wondering how it got that way.
Thanks, my grandson was excited to show me for sure. He was curious what could make it look like that, and wanted to get coin talk feedback. He will keep it for sure.
I have found similar coins in a fast current sound where coins are tossed back and forth among rocks for many years.. Just like rocks are tumbled and become smooth.
Imagination, I like it. The possibilities are endless what got it to this point. He thought maybe a blank planchet. I love his curiosity. I just try to encourage and ask you guys! LOL
